Title: I Almost Fried My Brain! Post by B14CK5H33P on Feb 4th, 2009 at 11:58am
I woke up Sunday morning and felt a bit under the weather, wound up puking.
10:30am, I take my temp and it is 103.2! I'm thinking "WTF?" To be a trooper though, I pumped myself full of cold meds and decided to do the radio show anyway. Well, an hour and 20 minutes into it, I felt HOT, so I took my temp again. 104 degrees. :-[ I called the DR's exchange, and the nurse for the exchange (a ditzy something or other) said, "Do this, do that." Been there, done it already (not a totul morun). So she finally says, go to the ER. I will not go to the hospital in the town. So figured I'd wait it 0ut for a bit. Started getting dizzy so I said, "Let's go!" Good thing too. because when we got to Barnes and they finally got me in, my tempt was 104.6!!! That was when I got scared and asked the Dr, "Um, how high can your temp go before it starts cooking your brain?" and he said, "not too much higher" and basically was diagnosed with Flu w/ high fever, given meds, and sent home with instructions. Monday I was out. yesterday I was so out of it from being brain-fried, and trying to do bills. By the time I got home, I kept thinking it was wednesday. So, that's one reason I have been MIA. The other reason - let's just say I HATE external harddives that promise you 1.5 Terrabyte, but once you load 300+gig of albums on it - it crashes. I have it all backed up to DVD's but DAMN, that can take weeks to reinstall. So, I HAD 3'295 albums loaded onto this one for Sundays show. I have done shows sick; I've done shows blitzed out of my mind (that is why puters need breathalyzers: you can't log on if your blood alcohol level is___. Hell, I even did a show after spending a night in the ER, screaming at the top of my life every half hour, as it felt like an alien was popping out of my back. Hadn't come out yet, but was trying. It was excruciating enough that morphine didn't touch with. So they gave me 2 shots of dilaudid sunday around noon. I felt no pain. At 3:00pm they released me after 2 shots of Toridal and 2 muscle relaxers. But at 6pm - I was ON THE AIR! Took great pride in that. This one kicked my ass though. Just trying to grin and bear it as they say. :-/ |

Sounds like you caught the same bug thats going around here. Jackie had it last week and Katie got it this week. High fever, sore throat and general crappy feeling.
Hope everyone who is feeling down from the flu gets better soon. I'm not allowed to get sick. Beth |

DON'T trust this virus, gang! Once you are on the mend, it shows up in a new form-for me it was a mouthfull of canker sores, which is quite painful. I know how to deal with those, thankfully, so was pretty much on the mend a day later..... when phase 3 hit. pneumonia! Good news about pneumonia, it can be treated!
I cannot say it enough, DO call the Dr, DO take plenty of liquids, DO stay home and rest, and most importantly, DO do your best to stay HOME, rather than infect the world........now mine was a virus -but pneumonia is not.....still, until you have a Dr's dx, you hqave no clue what you have got. AS for me....I don't wanna do this again............please, let the infected stay away from me!! Fell well, one and all....... Cathi, who is finally going for a recheck with the Dr..........cozz I want my LIFE BACK! |

You're an eyebrow-raiser, bud. Dedicated and love what you're doing. Good to see. But 104 is an attention-getter to back it down for good reason. The show must go on, but once a last minute change startled the crowd when Foghat didn't show up and Jerry LaCroix's White Trash filled in on last minute. Kicked ass trying to fill the void. The show CAN go on, if there's a stand up fill in sometimes. ;) Hey Carl. Can you do a friend a favor. A little dedication. Ron Asheton recently passed away and I'm fucking floored since. Didn't see him enough while he did town here, I'm an ass and now remembering just how much I irreplaceably loved every of the many, many times I was lucky enough to be there. Could you give a couple of his good ones a spin? |

Is it a seagate or maxtar drive? If so, and if they fixed the firmware for the third time, you maybe able to recover it yourself. They are also offering data recovery if you need it.

Yikes! You need Dr. House and his team with that kind of temp.
Take care of yourself and I'm just glad you got to the ER. Charlie |

Cathi, I haven't had cancre sores, blisters, sore throat... it's all been chest, coughing and making my entire body hurt when I do so, and sweating my ass off. I had to call the Dr again today cause I was like "Okay, been running fever now for 5 full days. What do I do?" And they told me it would take 5-7 days for the fever to break. But I'll start feeling better after a couple days, then BAM right back where I was. I gotta get over this shit, lol.

The two that crashed on me were the Western Digital MyBook Essentials, so one is toast and I am getting a replacement for, and since this machine is not performing up to the standards I am in need of for recording, broadcasting, etc The new machine is a 2.8g, but the Seagate 1.5 TB is my current Albums drive Kevin_M wrote on Feb 4th, 2009 at 1:29pm:
Not a prob. I did a Stooges tribute the weekend after he died but just let me know when you are on and I'll dedicate some to ya. Lux Interior of the psyco-billy group The Cramps died at age 60 so will be a doing a small tribute to him as well. And dammit, This show WILL go on this weekend. Unless another catastrophe awaits (god I hope not.) Peace, Carl D |

Thanks Joe. I appreciate it. It's 2:31am, my temp is 101.6 but I have been sweating heavy all day so I am hoping the fever is breaking. Doc said 5-7 days for it to run its course.

Glad you guys are feeling better. The flu. It's horrible.
I had a 104 fever once due to a very bad bronchial infection. I think it might have even been a little higher cause I was hallucinating. :-? Hugs, Langa |

Carl, Seagates never die. I don't know how many hundreds of western digiitals and Maxtors I've replaced, but those damn Seagates just keep on truckin. Hope you get on top of this shit. I shall be listening as usuall tomorrow nite.

Thanks Sanna and Langa. The fever broke Saturday night. Just dealing with usual body aches now and still a hella-wicked cough, but mending well. I think it was tuesday night I reached a point of hallucinating during fever - not sure how high it was, but was buried under a mound of covers sweating it out, but my bed started floating around the room at times. I think I was half dreaming through it too, but man, one thing I got lucky with is that the CH beast didn't go medieval on my head. 3 major hits in a week - I'll take that anytime. Opus wrote on Feb 8th, 2009 at 10:09am:
I did alot of research on externals, read all the forums and heard some praise the WD MyBooks - one user saying he has 6 of them chained on his machine, worked perfect since he bought the very first one. My internals are WD and have run fine, but the MyBooks fried on me for some reason. That is why I am not hooking the replacement 1- T MyBook until I get my new master machine. Paul, I've read alot of people bitch about Seagate and after researching the FreeAgent-Desk 1.5 TB I learned one important thing about using the drive that is crucial: Do NOT install the "Seagate External Setup" that comes on the HD itself. Just plug, your puter will find it, and voila, you're set to go. Just plug and play. It's when you try running the needless software that it can conflict with the machine itself. No probs with the Seagate so far, and it seems to be more stable than the WD MyBook. It came with a plastic base that lets you stand it up for 'efficiency in room' but I said screw the possibilities of it getting knocked over, and have it laying flat on the optional rubber feet. Just practicing safe driving. ;D |

Carl,
Good to hear you've beared the heat wave through it's harsh departure. Ot 'n Sweaty! Nice conversing again, catching up, and thank you very much. Still of course don't have the computer to keep up with your entertaining revolvings. I type, it sends. Keep tuned, buddy! :) |

Good you are feeling better.
Man oh man.... I would miss a week of work if I came down with that shit! How much sick time did you have to blow for that? I hear nothing but nastiness with this flu bug going around. |
