Title: My stars must be misaligned.
Post by Peppermint on Feb 5th, 2009 at 4:07pm
Well that should tell you where this is going - but I thought I'd share my morning with you.  It was just one of those days...

So last night I parked my car in front of the school across the street.. legal, unless between 7am-4pm school days.  That's a last resort spot for me if I can't find another.  Normally, If I do park there, I run out the door in the morning to remove it by 7am because I don't want to get a ticket.  Only, my hair was wet still, and my tummy wasn't feeling so good - really not good.  So I'm thinking damn I'm getting a ticket, $65 freaking dollars down the drain.

Well, I finally get out the door 20 minutes later, and see the school buses.  Not good.  I figure I'm sandwiched in - but I get closer and there's no car.  The crossing guard says there weren't any cops around this morning, and nobody ever gets towed there.  Well, I'm panicking, but who the hell wants to steal my car? Plus, it just never happens where I live.  So after calling the city help line (that's an oxymoron) nothing.  I call the precinct.  Sure enough, after 5 phone calls through the precinct, hold and 40 min. of anxiety, the impound tells me they picked it up around 7:15 - just before I got there.

SO, I get in a cab, $12 bucks later I'm in what looks like a junkyard and its about 16 degrees and I'm not dressed for it.  Their office is a trailer - no heat - and of course, there are people already on line.  I'm already an hour late for work when i get there. Plus - I'm getting the tummy thing going again.  There is only one port-a-potties - HELL no.  The idiot guy at the front is complaining to the clerk who's telling him about responsibilities.  Another 30 min later, I finally get to the window, and they don't even have my paperwork yet, but when it arrives, its $185 to get it out.  Then they take me thru the yard to my car (in the back of a police car ok), and there's a summons on my car window waiting for me. NOT $65, but  $115. [smiley=bigcry.gif] WTF.  I checked my trunk to see if anything was missing, at this point I'm thinking Bloomberg will go to any extent...

Anyway- I figure, I'll drive out closest to the last stop on my bus route before the expressway, b/c its the only way I'll make the last bus in to work.  Found a spot (legal, checked with the residents), and wait.  And wait. And wait...and the bus never comes.  So I get on a local bus to transfer to the subway, except now there's no $$ on my metrocard.  The driver is tapping his fingers and not moving.  So I'm reduced to begging for $2 worth of change on the bus.  Most people just ignore me.   :-? except this one college girl who seemed to have nothing but change.  Just before I get off, I pay and the bus driver gives me a dirty look.  At this point I desperately need to get to a bathroom.

20 min. later I get to work, and I'm really afraid of what could happen next... I wasn't at my desk 2 min before I had to run out again.  Luckily there weren't any obstacles.. or accidents.

Lesson#1 All NYC is a towaway zone.  Sign posted in the trailer.
Lesson#2 Port-a-potties are better than the possibilities.
Lesson#3 Always keep immodium in the house for emergencies.

It' ok to laugh with me.  WITH me.

I was waiting for the part where you left the impound yard a special gift in their trailer  ;D  Bad way to start a day, but I'll bet tomorrow will be a breeze in comparison!

Damn girl...sorry to hear of your morning.  Been there... :-[
Was forced to do my thing in the metronorth toilet...I would have preferred to die instead of using those toilets, except that the other option was not an option.

Glad you're okay though.  Love ya!

Hugs,
Maria

You guys crack me up with all the cr___py references!   ;D

The biggest part of my anxiety was not the not feeling well - though that was up there - it was that I was ridiculously late to work on a day before I was supposed to take off for the afternoon.  I'd already planned it, b/c my daughter has a basketball tournament.  Since our jobs are hanging by a few threads, it's not cool to be anything less than perfect at work.  It's been really tense and this just ratchets up the nerves to where everything is suspect.

Not surprisingly - my morning was not the end of it.  They must've done something to the rear end (OH the humanity) of my car when it got towed, it's now making weird noises.  Then my rear tire went completely flat out on Long Island, about 25 miles from home, around 7:30 at night.  I bought dinner, dropped it on the floor when I was about to eat it - and finally said damn it all, I'd better hurry up and get to bed. That was around midnight.

My daughter wakes me up chuckling this morning.."Mom.. wakeup - it's ok - it's a new day."  Freakin' kid has some sense of humor.

In the scheme of life, it wasn't horrible - today - so far so good. :)

PFDNs to ya'll..
Pepp
