Dear Senator Kennedy,

I'm thinking of starting a new company in this economic crisis, I think I'll call it  "How To Parent" That way we won't need to spend $330 million on the STD education that's earmarked in the Stimulus Bill. My thoughts are that if you have children, you should be mature enough to talk to your children about sex and homosexuals without our tax dollars doing it for you. There are no questions on the MCAS regarding STD prevention or homosexual parenting Senator. There are certain things I really don't want my sons 1st grade teacher teaching him. My point is, why don't they teach him how to gut a fish, I like to fish, most boys that are six like to fish, I think it would be great. That way I could spend more time waxing my boat because they taught him how to do that in class, makes sense don't you think.

I think when the second round of Stimulus comes forth, we should spend and equal amount of tax dollars on HTP education, therefore it won't be forgotten five minutes later by some teenager in heat.

Kids aren't fast food Senator, sit down at the dinner table and talk to them, you'd be surprised how easy it is to be a family.

Yes, that would be nice. But it doesn't describe this universe.


When other parents are negligent in teaching their kids about health, it affects everybody.  From those that don't wash after wiping to the pimply faced kid that makes our burgers after picking his zits and nose, it is a simple fact that laissez faire approaches to public health are not that good. This idea that schools, governments and corporations have a role does not eliminate parents in any way - good parents will continue to teach their kids about hygeine, health and disease, while other parents don't bother much. For those kids, the public effort is important.  

Health has been taught in schools for generations, and that doesn't generate much controversy except when it involves the private parts - people get squeamish.

The rate of STDs, teen pregnancy, and abortion can be reduced significantly when sexual health issues are included in health education classes.
