Title: Next Winter's Gathering
Post by ClusterChuck on Feb 16th, 2009 at 2:18pm
I got a crazy idea ...  I wonder how the rest of you feel ...

How about, for next winter's gathering, we do it HERE:
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

How many would be able to do this?

I KNOW many would be interested in it, but how many could actually DO it?  How long should the cruise be for?  WHERE would we do it?

IF we decide to do it, we need to get going on it, and allow for plenty of time to save your pennies.

Here is a quick idea of what we could do, and the beginning cost:

Naturally, we could go for longer, or one with more stops, or start from a different location.  That is just an idea of a cruise.

What say you?

Chuck, who LOVES cruising!

With all due respect, cruising is not for me.

Just my opinion. If enough people like it, go for it. Just not my cup of tea.

We often do short weekend-getaway cruises.
For example... the Carnival Miami/Tampa to Cozumel trips.  3-4 days.
They are definitely lower-end, but the price cannot be beat.

For family vacations we tend to do Celebrity or some of the larger Royal Caribbean boats... Voyager class or larger.  But those trips cost 2x-3x more than the short Carnival trips.

Our recent trip was a 'guys weekend out' last October...
about 8 of us went... Carnival Destiny out of Miami to Cozumel.
Price was $377 per person.... 2 to a cabin.
Airfare from STL to MIA was another $250.
Would I take my family on it?  Nah.
It is good for sitting around & drinking with friends?  Sure.

Hi Chuck:
Here's another thought.  The beach in winter is a pretty nice place.  I can work some miracle deals in January.  I think we talked about that.  In Charleston, there is the beautiful downtown, market, galleries, shops and wonderful food.  They also have a dinner cruise that is a lot of fun.  But may be a little cool in January.  Then Myrtle Beach has endless stuff.  I have had great success in working deals with Ocean Creek Resort in January for condos.  Dirt cheap.  And, I know they don't have an international airport, but Asheville is gorgeous and cheap in January.  Just some thoughts.

GROSS!  [smiley=hurl.gif]

I would LOVE to be able to go on a cruise but I don't think we could swing it.  Our big vacation is a once a year trip that includes our children.   I sure will be envious of any of you that go!

You boys are just too sweet.

I just find it so ironic, that applications I put in at a couple businesses at their online sites, back in October....finally contacted me with obligatory "no thank you" emails today.

I had already figured this was the case when the pnone didn't ring asking for an interview.

Oh well...I'll just keep at it.  What else can I do right?

We've done several cruises out of San Diego. As cheap as 249 each for a 4 day cruise. Hard to do Denny's and a motel 6 for that! I'd be in for a CH Cruise!

I've been a a few cruises and I felt like I was being held hostage....LOL

I like the more direct route of flying in a plane straight to the destination island.

I'm sick of winter......

I've been to a cruise on many times. Back in here it's not that huge deal when you live in Helsinki. Cruise ships leave for Tallinn and Stockholm daily. It's actually a lot of fun if you're with the right company. :)

Now, I'd be more than happy to travel to America when I'll win one of our lotteries... ;) When will you know, Mel? ;)

I'd be up for that...I've never been on a cruise!!!

Maybe Beth has a great idea too- would it be more doable for folks to just fly to a destination spot?  Maybe one of those great little beach spots in Mexico that can be so cheap?

...as far as danger, with Chuck on board, shouldn't y'all be more afraid of butt pirates??  :D

No way I could do a cruise;

Now Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Asheville of course are all not just viable, but within my location.  I suppose I could have the lot of you show up on my 2 acres and get a really big tent rented for our get together, and you could use the house for various needs ;)

Wonder how that much would be to cater and have a tent set up ;)

Cat

just pondering

Ok, I've decided that it'd be too expensive for the upkeep and taxes on buying an island, so I'll rent one instead. [smiley=grin2.gif]

Or, you could:

1. Buy it with a mortgage payment you can't afford.

2. Don't pay the mortgage.

3. Get ACORN to stage a sit-in demanding justice.

4. Re-finanace to another mortgage that you can't afford.

5. Repeat ad infinitum.

Got #3 covered here, Brew.

A part time real estate chick bought a  half a million dollar house....Did I say "Part time?

Then she complained that she didnt know what an ARM was.......Oh, the sit in was automatic!

Took the bank a year to toss her.

Would I be racist if I said she was black?

No white people do shit like that all the time. stupidity knows no color.

dad lives in a $350,000 home. over the past 15 years he's been buying big houses, living in them for 5 years while fixing them up, then selling them. he's made$20,000 to $40,000 per house. with the money he put down on his current house his mortgage is less than $500 an month. it helps if your retired and have time to work on things.

What shade? Why is color relevant? What size shoe did she wear? Was she tall or short? Did she have large breasts or small? Any moles or distinguishing marks that will help the authorities to find her? Was she "Really" a woman?

Oh... wait... was she even a fugitive?

Just curious.  :)

Survivor??  :o

My idea of Mel's island had (at bare minimum) hot water, a swim-up bar and cute man-slaves to fan me and feed me grapes.  There was definitely NO catching my own food/living in a homemade shelter in my mind!!
