Just send Andrea to me, Sgt. Morris' school of decorum and manners. I can promise you that insolence would just be a word in the dictionary. BTW, attitude adjustments are my specialty 8-)

Carolyn as much as I would love to do that, I value your friendship too much to put you through that terror! Her grandfather is notorious for putting a boot in anyone's behind that steps out of line. He is completely confounded by Andrea (mind you he was by me too....perhaps there's a similarity LOL) - I would be terrified to inflict that child on anyone I consider a friend hehe.
She is just going through that phase - and it's just come to an abrupt halt. She is rather annoyed with me that she is grounded until her bedroom is cleaned to MY standards. She swears it is, I told her to go back and go over it again, no way 45 min. would make it clean to my standards. The resulting consequence is me going in tomorrow when she's at school, and she knows from past experience that whatever I find that does not meet my standards will be garbage and the immediate loss of electronics. It's gonna be an interesting few days. Specially with Ayden and I both running fevers and Alex trying to settle in his new kitty that was a rescue kitty and is terrified. I won't hesitate to call on you though if I come to the complete end of my rope and start planning nooses. ;) Cat |

Damn Cat... I sure can sympathize...
I'm beginning to think teenagers are put here on earth to remind us of what we did to our own parents. I keep telling my wife to just go on strike until things are done the way you want. Don't feed em. Don't wash their stuff. Don't take em anywhere. Just let em stew in their own juices. Of couse eventually she can't stand the mess any longer and jumps in. ::) So I'm in the trenches right beside you. -Dennis- |

Dennis I hear ya! It should be interesting when I remove the cell phone, the ipod, the computer, the gaming systems and the various other electronics she has decided are absolute necessities and appendages to her very person.
Thins will get ugly before they improve. But I've always told her, "I want to be your friend, but I HAVE to be your mother first. Time will tell. It's frustrating knowing how much good is in her and that this is a phase, one I went through myself, although much worse. I can only hope I don't drive her away permanently. Cat |

Maybe my wife and I were wrong, but, after a while, we finally decided that their room was THEIRS, and as long as we could keep the door closed, and company away from their room, we let them do as they wished in their room. We felt there were other, more important concepts to fight with them over.
We admitted defeat on keeping their rooms clean. We "let" them win that one. Who knows if we were right or wrong in that decision? So far, none of the kids (ages 21 to 31) have ended up in jail. Most times we are very proud of them, but other times, we still want to string them up! But, then again, that was OUR decision. YMMV Chuck |

Chuck for the most part I agree with that ideology. However when she announced to me last night that she was an hour late getting to bed because she had to redo her electrical cords so she didn't start a fire that became a critical concern.
Safety first you know. I wonder what goes through their invincible minds some times. Cat Ok off to bed with me, hubby is concerned with my health because of my marathon clean today. |

Oh, YEAH! Yup, that was definitely a signal that it was time to bring the hammer (2X4?) down! We DID have to do the similar once or twice, too! Certain things DID necessitate that action! Chuck |

Teens......Aliens put on this earth to drive adults and parents crazy. :P
Hang in there, Cat. I'd tell you to stand your ground but I know you will. Hope you're feeling better soon. Much Love, Mom (your other one :)) |

Cat,
Do you remember when your mother used to tell you this, "I can't wait for you to have children of your own". Now you know why she was smiling when she said it. |

LOL Happy Pappy!
I feel your pain Cat. I've been riding the emotional roller coaster of parenting two teens. One moment they touch your heart and the next they can break it. They have you as a mom, so it's all good. :) Beth |

Just to make things ever interesting, we had a 1/2 hour search for the new kitty Nicki Grey, who found an impossible location to hide in, then Ayden decided his fever should go to 105.1 - he's presently on his way to the Doctors, and Andrea rolled her ankle at school and is an invalid, thereby using it as an excuse to not clean the disaster waiting to happen in her room.
Always an excuse! Calgon take me away! (if it could get rid of the aches and pains of this damn flu bug I'd be all for it. Right now I couldn't care if the world ended!) - err with the exception of the sick little one that is. Cat |

Tell Andrea that she can sit in her floor and start sorting stuff out and then *you* can help her decide if it's a *keeper* or a throw a way.
