Quite awhile back I was approached by a maritime artist seeking permission to use one of my images as a basis for a painting. Our relationship is good - he pays me a very healthy percentage fee when the paintings sell.

This is the latest. With some artistic license, he moved the location of the ship, but stayed very true to most details.

And that's not a real high dollar painting for him. You should see what he gets for being personally commissioned to paint some of the world class racing sailboats he does  [smiley=shocked.gif]

Last year I read a book by the former president and director of the Mystic Seaport Museum.  The detailed knowledge shown of the aspects of American history in that area were amazing.  You should feel very proud to be associated and have that picture chosen to be a part of how they represent themselves.

He's not a starving artist, very impressive work.

He is good, but your pic is better.

I like the photo better too.

Its much harder to get the light and the composition just perfect in the first place. An artist can redo a painting until it is right to his eye, a photographer only has a tiny window of opportunity to get his picture.

Marc, you have amazing talent !

I like them both.  I'd be hard put if I had to choose between the two of them.  I guess I could put both of them up, just in different rooms and that would really confuse people  ;D.

Wow, I really don’t know how to respond to all of you and your kind words.

My post was about capturing an image that helped inspire someone else to create such a thing of beauty – with his hands, using such primitive tools.  I was sharing the beauty of the art that this man produces because I think that he is incredibly talented.

I didn’t create the light and shadow, the textures and perspective. I just pointed the lens at it and pulled the trigger. I can’t sing, I can’t dance and I can’t draw, I can’t write – so I take pictures

Again, I sincerely thank you for the comments, but it is his art that I wanted to showcase.

He gets the mortgage on his boat refinanced courtesy of the US Government. ;D

Only if:
1) He intentionally bought more boat than he could possibly afford

2) There is little chance that he can maintain the boat and the payments after bailout

3) He doesn’t pay his fair share of taxes

If the Brown Shirts from ACORN show up then none of the above need apply - it's simply automatic.
