Title: smithsonian institute

i'm delivering a load of glass to the Smithsonian institute saturday morning. they are shutting down the road to get me in there. i'm going to try to find a place nearby to park my truck so i can visit my sister. i've circled d.c. many time but i've never been inside. it's always nice to visit a place that i've never been to. if i don't get dispatched immediately after dropping off my load i'll take a few pics.   wish me luck

I don't envy you driving in DC.  It's a MESS!  At least they are closing the road for you, otherwise you might be stuck there for days waiting to turn left!

Just curious - what kind of glass??

it's double pane 8x10 standing up on a flatbed trailer. since i've been driving around in the deserts and planes d.c. should be a nice challenge. all the time i used to spend over in new jersey getting loaded at places designed for horse and buggy should come in handy.

If you are delivering to any of the Smithsonians on the mall, they are all backed by broad city streets.  Alleys available on most, if I recall correctly.

If you are delivering to a distribution site for the Smithsonians in the Metro DC area, then all bets are off as to what kind of streets they'll have.

I've always been awed by people who can maneuver those large unwieldy vehicles into seemingly tiny spaces.  You have my admiration!

Any chance that you will be heading south, into North Carolina, after you're done in DC?

might be. this is my last tour with this company. i told them to get me something going to mesquite so i can turn the truck back in so they will probably get somthing going to shoot me around like a pinball for a few more weeks. send me a pm with your number. i don't have a laptop yet so i can't log on once i get going.

btw i made it here and got unloaded. now i'm just hanging out at my sisters.
