I saw that on the news this morning (reading) - I was stunned. What? How? Where do such little kids come up with this sort of thing? What the hell is wrong with a world where kids not only CAN do this but even THINK to do it?
It's a tragedy, all those lives just torn up by a kid who - well he just can't possibly see the consequences of his actions yet. It's just too awful to find words for. |

Stuff like this has always been around and probably just as much. There just wasn't national media out there using tragedy to sell crap produced by sleazoid drug companies. Also, there was a level of respectability maintained, unlike today. A kid like this was often ferried off to some kind Dickens-like institution and the story buried.
Of course kids think killing somebody is like a video game and that it's either clean and simple or so bloody that makes the act appear fictional and not real to them. Not good. Charlie |

Yea I was going to say that I think kids are so desensitized by the TV/Movies they see and the games they play. And even if the kid was properly trained on using the hunting gun, shouldn't they be locked up when you have kids in the house? I mean, I would think an 11-year old would only go hunting with an adult (Joe might remind me he was hunting much younger than that) but wouldn't parents lock up guns in between hunting trips? So sad. |

Guns were never locked up in my house when I was growing up (let's go back to the 60's). Daddy kept a loaded rifle in his bedroom closet and a loaded pistol in his desk drawer. There was no amount of coercion in this world that could have gotten me to touch his firearms, because I know what would have happened (mama would have beat my a$$).
I didn't start locking my guns up until Sarah started having friends over and I knew that they probably weren't raised to respect firearms and the damage they can do. I do agree that the gun should have been locked up when he wasn't hunting with it. Many kids today cannot separate reality from fantasy and that's where you start running into trouble. |

One could make the argument that Pilots use video simulations to improve their skills, athletes can use video simulations to improve their skills. The technology is proven to be a great aid in developing virtual experience. One can also argue that violent first person shooter games can be a form of training for a young mind. I would argue that all children would NOT be effected in the same way. I'm no behaviorist, nor child psychologist... I don't think you need to be one to think something was wrong with that kid after he did what he did. From what I heard... he mentioned to someone that he planned to do it. He then allegedly waited for the opportunity and shot her while she was asleep. So far all evidence paints a fairly strong argument that he is guilty... I guess we will see what happens after due process is served. with warm regards, Tony |

I've read a lot of the 19th century newspapers that I've sold over the years. Back then, national news.....and it really isn't national news......like this had a buffer of a week or more before the ghastly stuff was known to a larger audience. It was considered horrible but not having to listen to idiots on cable news devote weeks to such things wasn't all bad.

Was just talking to my neighbor from across the street... I didn't realize that it was his sister's daughter who was killed. The whole family is devastated.
They are pissed off as well... the media is making a very bad situation a living nightmare.... the immediate family is in hiding for the next few days just to get away from the press. Bob (my neighbor) said that people (strangers) actually tried taking pictures of the baby who was laid out at the funeral. I was shocked to hear that the child was buried separately from the mother. I guess it was their intention to try to sell the images to a tabloid. People disgust me. Anyway... if you have any extra prayers and vibes please send them to the family who is suffering horribly right now. The two living daughters will probably be in therapy for a very long time. The youngest was actually with her mother for 4 hours before she was discovered. Thanks for any prayers you can muster. with warm regards, Tony |
