Title: Got me a little problem - need a little help...
Post by BarbaraD on Feb 23rd, 2009 at 11:06am
I got me a summons for JURY DUTY.

Now I'm a civic minded as the next guy and back before CH, I used to love to serve on Juries. But right now I'm in a high cycle and I have this thing going on in my head of the scene in the courtroom of me sitting there listening intently to the lawyer and WHAM!

Got a feeling this would not be good for either side and would disrupt the whole proceedings. I'm not real good an explaining what's happening when it's happening and.... well you guys get the idea.

My little problem is HOW DO I EXPLAIN THIS TO THE NICE JUDGE? The way my hits are happening (I've never been exactly routine with them) I'm not even sure I could show up at the right time, so I'll probably have to get excused BEFORE I'm supposed to be there.

Funny thing is -- this is the first time I've been called up in years and years and years. Don't even remember the last time. Must have been at least 30 years ago.

Anyone got suggestions?

Hugs BD

Tell him you have a medical condition that would not allow it.  Get a doctors note...

With me, it's easy because here they assemble juries by drivers license data, I'm never called.

Aside from saying "burn the bastards," at the interview... :o just explain what this thing is and supply some kind of medical info from a doctor. Perhaps having someone click on OUCH couldn't hurt.

I ditto what Steph said.....................I also think if u get in and explain it to lawyers, they will not want u...............
Does your state do by phone call in, or do u have to report there?
I also have not been called in maybe 27 yrs! was called about 10 yrs ago but was a full time student, and that was one of the valid excuses!
I wouldnt mind going now, tho, since i am on Unemployment, and could make those few extra $'s work for me!!!
Good Luck!

Got hold of my neuro and they have a "form" letter for this purpose. Gee whiz - I gotta get out more. :)  Now if the judge will just accept it.. it doesn't even have "what" medical condition he's treating me for. Just that it would be BAD for me at this time....

Works for me...  Thanks guys...

Thats wonderful, and thanks for sharing~ I learned something new! I have served on jury during an attack, all I got in the end was a lecture of how I should have warned them of how bad they were. Hopefully that paper saves you from the embarrasment I had~ :)

I was on jury duty week before last and actually assigned to a Murder 2 jury.  Over the weekend I developed an abcessed tooth.  Called and said I couldn't make court, they would have to use an alternate.  Asked me to come in person and explain to the Judge.  Told them I was on pain meds and couldn't drive.  I was excused and my jury service fulfilled for the year.

During selection just let them know you're thrilled to be on the jury.  You have an uncanny ability to identify guilty people by smell.

I've been called twice in the last 15 years.  I actually WANT to do it but circumstances dictate that I don't.

The first time I had a 5 year old and no bus service for half day school and he was going back to school in the afternoons for enrichment.  They weren't going to approve 4 round trips to school . . .

The second time I got called Brew went in the hospital for emergency DHE treatments at the beginning of the week and my dad went in to the hospital at the end of the same week . . . .

Just not in the cards for me . . .

Being Mrs. Law Enforcement I always figured I'd get dismissed once called to the jury interview room. I did get called for a case, but the defendant got spooked once he was told the Jury was on their way so he settled for the plea bargain. Too bad, it was a rape case of an elderly woman. I would have loved to nail the dude.

I agree with Brew by the way...

I'd be more than happy to serve on a jury. But can you imagine a lawyer dumb enough to let me on a jury?

As soon the defense attorney got a chance to crop one jurist, his pointing finger eliminated me in two seconds.

Barb, I understand, but can't help thinking "Holy Hell!" of you being in deliberations.   ;)
