Here's a self-portrait that Ellen just completed:

She says:

"Self portrait I did winter 2009 (Jan-Feb).

This is in contrast to the one I did fall of last year, which I have yet to upload. Both are done as school assignments with loose guidelines.

Unfortunately this photo doesn't do the background on the two large sections justice- it's stippled gold gel pen, and the color doesn't come out right. I'll have to see if I can get some additional photos of it.

This was another experiment in fragmentation of an idea and use of color. My fall self portrait was done as a triptych in greens and yellows. Both are also partially assembled pieces, connected with wire.

Colored pencil, ink, gel pen, foam core, wire, graphite. 24x16"

I like it.   :)  Thanks for lookin'.

Best wishes,

George

I think the thing I love so much about art is it lets you see the world from someone elses viewpoint. I love seeing how people perceive and interpret things and capture light and so on.

I've enjoyed looking at this, I love how it's put together as much as each individual component.

The art you pick (real art not just wall fillers which is mostly what I have right now) says alot about you too. I would be proud to have this statement and make this statement on my wall.

Thank you George and Ellen  :)

What an amazing talent.

With some refinement, she could earn you your retirement, George. Her tuition is a wise investment.

Nice work Ellen!!! Self portraits are fun to do and to look at! I especially like the way you've fragmented this view of yourself and exploded the traditional solid pictorial surface.

Sweeet!

with warm regards,
Tony

I am in awe.  Your daughter has a talent that has no end.

Nice to see she's attending school in BC for next year.  Hopefully we won't Canadianize her too much but if she comes home saying "that's nice eh?" you may want to rethink her choice of schools! ;)

Imagine if she is this good now what she will be like after 4 years of on of the best art schools ;)?? I can't wait to see her develop. She has already grown so much in the past few years.

Thank you all.  El's taken a look at this thread, and I know she's tickled pink by your kind comments.   :)

I should mention that the self portrait triptych she mentioned from last fall is currently on display in an exhibit of student art at the Boise Art Museum.

All the best,

George

"Back bacon. And Molsons"
