I posted a link some where on the site with pictures of my family. I got this new computer and can't even remember the site I put them on.

Elaine, glad you found your pics. I put my important one's on disc's so I will never lose them.
I have a few thousand just of our biking so I categorize them by year, works good for me. :) |

Since this thread is already wandering all over the place: Barry, CD's and DVD's are not good long term storage as they break down over time. The factory produced CD/DVD media will last a REALLY long because it is "pressed" while we "burn" the data onto disks at home. There is no perfect solution yet, but you should copy your important stuff to new disks every now and then. FWIW, the media with gold colored surface seem to last longer than the blue or silver. Music is more forgiving because you may just a hear a "pop" in place of missing data. Other types of files may not even open. Keep in mind that they may be just great for years, then suddenly the files are corrupted. Blanks are cheap, just re-burn a new copy of the old ones and keep spares. I'm far from expert on this subject, but I tend to watch it closely because I have almost 2TB of image files I don't want to lose. For now, I just keep them on multiple redundant hard drives which I replace as needed because drives have gotten so cheap. OK, back to discussing Joe's toolkit and the possible implications of using it improperly ;D Marc |

We bought a 500GB external hard drive in which we keep all our videos on. We also have some pics on it, but thanks Marc for the tip and I think i will transport the pics on disc to this hard drive. :) |

Stash your video tapes in a safe place. They are the master un-compressed version of your videos. Videos burned to DVD are compressed and lose some quality.
If you ever have old VHS tapes converted to digital, have them put on digital tape reather than disk. You can then use the tape to make disks as needed. |

Oh by the way I wanted to show a friend of mine the pictures and I could not remember the address to save my life. Plus I want it to add to when I have stuff to share. I have just about all my pictures printed out. I have two big boxes and I mean big boxes of pictures. I need to buy some albums to put them in. I also have disk made of my pictures. I just up load them to wal mart and they print them along with a CD. I just use this site to share with others. Just play all you want! |
