I just saw on the news that the father of Sarah Palin's grandson has broken up with her!  Were she Vice President all other government business would have to stop until that situation was sorted out.

Maybe we should add an amendment to the Constitution that no one can run for Vice President or President if they have/will have an illegetimate child or grandchild?

Maybe it was the ever present smell of fish on Levi (is that his name, I really haven't paid any attention to him) that drove them apart? ::)

I wish that the media would stay out of that girl's personal life.  Palin is in fact NOT VP so there is no reason that the general public should even know about this break up.  IMO............

That certainly is the down side of celebrities and political figures, they have no private lives. I too think it is a shame that the media finds it necessary to put the Palins in the spotlight rather than staying on top of what our country leaders are doing to try to turn this ship about.

Illegitimate is one word that I absolutely despise/abhor when it comes to *labeling* children who are born to a mother who is not married.  This is a term that should not even be applied in this instance.  Although I realize that it is also considered a legal and viable term, the onus is put on the children not the adults who caused the situation.

The child is labeled and punished for something they had absolutely no control over.

We use "biological" when we HAVE to.

and the only time we ever discuss biological vs adopted is when asked for clarity (usually people are interested in our family dynamic when they ask).

As far as I'm concerned, your kids are yours, mine are mine.. and if yours are at MY house then they're mine for the duration too!

Why do some people have to obsess about labelling "things"? To my ex's credit, my oldest two kids WERE his. As far as he was concerned he just wasn't there when they were born. He fell out with people over it, he made damn sure they KNEW he was "daddy". It had to be dragged out of him that he wasn't biologically related to them and that was one of the things I found most attractive about him.

I get along great with my husbands ex and their daughter.  I guess I've always use the term "step-daughter" as to not hurt her mom or make Brenda feel as though I was trying to take her mom's place.  

She knows I love her just the same though. ;)

I'm with you on this 100%. Illegitimate is a horrid term But you have to admit BASTARD CHILD is a lot worse.

   Are you suggesting there is something wrong with Fishermen Jonesy? That perhaps their personal hygiene isn't the best. Or some such thing? You have some personal knowledge of the Alaskan fisheries industry?

BobG, et al, I agree with y'all 100% (even you Chuck  ;) ).  I have a nephew that married a girl with 2 children from her first marriage.  As far as the family is concerned, they are as much *ours* as they are anybody elses (their biological daddy is a part of their lives, but they also call my nephew daddy, too and as far as my nephew is concerned, they are *his*).  

The only grandchild I will ever have will be adopted, so do you think I'm going to care that it's not my flesh and blood?  I could care less.

I agree about the usage of the term *bastard*, but I'm not so sure that it's much worse than illegitimate.  The connotation is the same, it's just one is the vulgar term.

We refer to em as the kids. The kids need money.  the kids are comin to town and need money,  the kids are buyin a car and need money,  it's either a kids birthday a kids wife or hubbys birthday and they need money. Let's call em kids.
