Pelosi Tells Illegal Immigrants That Work Site Raids are Un-American
The speaker of the House told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants recently that  enforcement of immigration laws in the United States is "un-American."

EXCLUSIVE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."

The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as "very, very patriotic."

"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco.

"It must be stopped....What value system is that? I think it's un-American. I think it's un-American."

Pelosi said she was invited to the church by Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., as part of his 17-city, cross-country tour called United Families, which he says is intended to put a human face on the immigration debate.

"We think that families are the cornerstone of our society and our nation, and an immigration system should preserve those families, not destroy them," Gutierrez told FOX News Capitol Hill Producer Chad Pergram on Tuesday.

The congressman is collecting petitions that ask President Obama to "stop the immigration raids and deportations that are tearing our marriages, families and children apart." He is expected to present those petitions when Hispanic members of Congress meet with the President Wednesday.

On Saturday night, Pelosi joined Gutierrez before a cheering crowd at St. Anthony's chanting, "Si se puede," or "Yes we can."

Referring to work site enforcement actions by ICE agents, Pelosi said, "We have to have a change in policy and practice and again ... I can't say enough, the raids must end. The raids must end."

"You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic."

"I was embarrassed by what she said," said Rick Oltman, with Californians for Population Stabilization, an anti-illegal immigrant group. "Exhorting illegal aliens for taking responsibility for our country's future.... In fact, sitting there in the audience.... I really resented that comment."

"I think it was pandering to the crowd but also insulting to American citizens who consider themselves to be patriotic, who obey the rule of law," said Oltman, who shot a video of the rally.

What else would you expect from the wicked witch of the left...  She hates you, your dog, and anything you do if you support immigration laws or ICE for doing their duty in capturing and deporting illegal aliens IN THE WORK PLACE where they take jobs away from US citizens...

Check out her score card...

Then remember she voted against the amendment in the Porkulus Bill that would have prevented stimulation funding from going to illegal aliens...  As it stands now...  there is no prohibition against contractors hiring illegal aliens with taxpayer funding...

Come on Monty...  Show us your best liberal spin on Pelosi's rant on ICE and enforcing the law...

Take care,

V/R, Batch

Perhaps in an attempt to show true bipartisanship Nancy wishes to keep the illegal aliens available as workers for all her wealthy republican friends.

God forbid some of those folks would ever have to pay a decent wage, or do their own gardening or housework.

just a thought.

with warm regards,
Tony

If she is opposed to enforcing the existing laws, I disagree with her.

If the quote was accurate and she said "enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is un-American" she might have a valid point ... one might ask if kicking in doors in the middle of the night or separating families is characteristically American, or might be considered un-American.

When Sheriff Joe Arpaio sends his deputies to go out and sweep a neighborhood, and they arrest anyone who can't prove they are US citizens on the spot, I would argue that enforcement is out of control. I think that the Constitution should be upheld, and that law enforcement must have probable cause before they do searches and arrest people.  My grandmother has long lived in this country legally, but her English has always had a heavy accent.  Does that give Sheriff Joe and his type the right to throw my grannie in jail if she decides to go out to church or to shop without her US passport?

Amendment 4 - Search and Seizure. Ratified 12/15/1791.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Right! It was the first thing I thought of when this thread started. Hispanics are voting more and more Democratic and Democrats would like to keep it that way. Republicans bent over backwards for them before as well.

She kinda grates on me after the assinine House unconstitutional tax vote on the bonuses.....but you know what? She trapped a whole bunch of Republicans into voting for a tax hike....... ;D

un amercan? seems like we've been doing that kinda stuff for years. it would seem that all their doing is enforcing the law. if she doesn't like it she can try to get the law changed.

i can sympathize with being separated from your family in a raid but isn't that the gamble you take when you come up here illegally?

Ok, consider these cases, which are just the tip of the iceberg.

Quote:
Manuel Nieto, Jr., a U.S. citizen who was detained in front of his family’s auto repair shop after police heard him listening to music in Spanish.

Peter Guzman, a 30-year-old developmentally disabled American citizen living in Los Angeles, was deported to Mexico after being jailed for trespassing. His family searched for three months until they found him, homeless and begging in Tijuana.

23-year-old Rita Cote, a Honduran immigrant, called the police to save her sister, who was being severely beaten by her boyfriend. Instead of arresting the boyfriend, officers arrested Cote in front of her three small children and imprisoned her for being undocumented.

Batch got irate when Obama made a moronic joke about the special olympics, and so did I. But where is the outrage when the government is arresting disabled US citizens and dumping them in Mexico without bothering to find out who they are??  Seems like that is a bit more than just insensitive.

And what about Israel Correa, an American citizen arrested for speaking with an accent?

Quote:
Correa said he informed MCSO deputies that he was an American citizen, born in Maricopa County, but that they did not believe him because of his accent. In any case, he cooled his heels in stir till morning, when he was informed that he would not yet be released.

The lady was screaming at me," alleged Correa. "I told her, `Ma'am, you don't need to be in my face, plus your breath stinks!' She said, `You're not from here. This is a fake driver's license.' I said, `It's not fake, I want to speak to an attorney, I know my rights.'

Should US citizens be required to carry their passports at all times? Should US citizens stopped for traffic violations be held for days on suspected immigration violations because they look, dress or speak 'foreign'?

The more I hear about the drug cartel wars spilling over into the US the more I realize there has to be stronger measures taken.

It would be nice if everyones constitutional rights are protected. However not everyone is entitled to a constitutional right. Human rights definitely. What are the provisions our constitution makes for foreigners invading our country?

Tony

You seem to be applying a military metaphor to a problem that is best describe as crime.  The whole notion of 'drug wars' and 'invading' imply a solution will lead to the loss of rights for both citizens and non-citizens.  This is not the first time America has dealt with violent organized crime.

The mafia kills people and distributes heroin and other drugs. Would a 'war' on the mafia be in order, complete with random detention of Italian Americans without probable cause?  Or should we deal with the problem with a law-enforcement campaign that operates within the laws and Constitution?

The argument I'm making is when people enter this country without following immigration laws they are breaking the law. Not being a US citizen does not give them a constitutional right. I assume the laws are there for an arguably good reason.

Is there a reason in the first place that the people coming here illegally do not go through the legal process, applying for a passport, work visa etc.?

It's probably a lot easier to find work here in the states without proving citizenship than it is to get a visa. If that is the case... (and there is still a high demand for the workforce they represent) wouldn't it be easier to just issue more visa's which would reduce the temptation to cross illegally?

I believe in human rights and am opposed to racial profiling. When I went to Norway a couple years ago... I always carried my passport with me, was I upset about it? No. Would I have been upset if I was asked to produce it? No. I was a guest in another country and it was my responsibility to be aware of and follow their laws.

Even as a US citizen If you are pulled over by a police officer while driving... one of the first things you are asked to do is present your drivers license, registration and proof of insurance. In some states it is illegal to drive without carrying these credentials.

I really do not see a huge violation of Human rights to be asked to follow our laws as long as the laws do not violate our constitutional rights.

with warm regards,
Tony

That is a given.

Not true. They do not have the right to vote or the right to hold office, because those are specifically reserved for citizens. But other Constitutional rights ARE human rights - for example, the right to due process.  We cannot convict someone for robbery without a trial or confiscate their property without compensation simply because they are not a citizen, or because their visa ran out last week and they are here in violation of the law. We can show them the door.

If the "motor-voter-INS status" laws are adopted across the board and are effective, then driver's licenses will be one way of proving citizenship. But I think it is going a few steps farther to require all people to carry such identification on them all the time.

I can accept the idea that I need to have my license when I drive, when I go through airport security, when I do certain financial transactions to prove my identity to the bank, etc.  I do not accept the idea that the police should be able to stop anyone at any time, ask them for their papers, and detain/deport anyone (including citizens) who don't have a valid ID on them. That has happened, and is probably happening today. That is un-American.

Quote:
Thomas Warziniack was born in Minnesota and grew up in Georgia, but immigration authorities pronounced him an illegal immigrant from Russia.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has held Warziniack for weeks in an Arizona detention facility with the aim of deporting him to a country he's never seen. His jailers shrugged off Warziniack's claims that he was an American citizen, even though they could have retrieved his Minnesota birth certificate in minutes and even though a Colorado court had concluded that he was a U.S. citizen a year before it shipped him to Arizona.

On Thursday, Warziniack finally became a free man. Immigration officials released him after his family, who learned about his predicament from McClatchy, produced a birth certificate and after a U.S. senator demanded his release.

"The immigration agents told me they never make mistakes," Warziniack said in an earlier phone interview from jail. "All I know is that somebody dropped the ball."

Thanks for clearing that up monty.

So I guess my proposal for the new universal ID would be met with a little resistance?  :)
