Title: Nightmares become reality Post by zwibbs-Scott on Mar 30th, 2009 at 4:46pm
In November, 2008 the world rejoiced over Obama'a election. Now we are left with the tears of joy becoming tears of fear as he doesn't have a clue as to what is going on. The liberal congress has been spending 1 Billion dollars a day on nonsense!! Factual---look it up !!! Remember that the United States can print money any day---every day . Who do you think approved the AIG Bonus Money---none other than the dreamchild and his crew of misfits. When all of us ( the American Taxpayers ) balked at these Bonuses---Obama caught the drift and ordered the financial wizard --Tim Geitner--to put a stop to it. Obviously Poor Tim is like a Deer caught in the headlights and says Yessum boss. Now we have Missles being fired, and criminal low lives being dismissed from prison. When is America going to wake up and realize that this choice was obviously a poor one ! His ( President ( sic) Obama's ) first decision was on Abortion---and the ease of getting one---Doesn't that tell you something....My God Almighty---God Bless America !! ---Please!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if it was this afternoon, what could be done about it? My best advice - lay low, keep your powder dry, and ride it out. Hey, baseball season starts next week! |

Did anyone believe that Obama was not in favor of some degree of choice when it comes to abortion? If so, you weren't paying attention.-----------------------------------------------------------I was paying attention---Precisely why I didn't vote for him---But were you paying attention about the AIG payments---seems the "O" man approved them in January, as well as his nitwit Treasury Sec.---( Believe me he'll be out of his job in a matter of weeks). It is going to be a freakin nightmare!!!! Bot continue to watch Oprah---cause she knows the truth and nothing but the truth!

John--I trucked all over the Atlantic Seaboard---I would listen to anyone who would keep me awake. I used to travel down Route 95 and count the miles til I met up with Pedro----and I would listen to North Carolina AM radio where people would auction off their lawn mowers as well as their lawn furniture. Many, many years ago!

i can identify with that. when i listen to rush he makes a few valid points then he talks about how stupid liberals are. mike malloy does the same thing on the other side. i really think that BOTH sides are going to have to get together and move us all ahead instead of calling one another stupid. |

Sure. And it is a no-win situation. A company that messed up should not be giving big bonuses. But how does the government stop it? Usually, the only way to void a contract is through the courts - bankruptcy, for example, puts all debts and contracts on the table for renegotiation. But the idea here was to keep AIG out of bankruptcy to keep it from knocking over more dominoes. And the Republicans were screaming about the sanctity of contracts and how overturning them would lead to the collapse of western civilization. Most of these contracts were from before the Bush Tarp bill, which had nothing in it about limiting bonuses. And the TARP II bill didn't specifically address it either - there was talk about putting such language in, but no agreement that it would be legal or otherwise a good idea. Because there are issues when the government goes in and retroactively changes contracts. Then the bonuses were made public, and people got pissed - very understandable. The scope of the whole crisis is so large, and the details so massive, that nobody understands the whole thing. But big bonuses from a failing company getting a big bailout is very understandable, and infuriating. So Congress went about fixing the problem. Chuck Grassley came up with an elegant solution that would not require government action: the CEO and others getting the bonuses should give the money back, and then commit suicide. That free market solution didn't get implemented, mostly because the people getting the bonuses were free to tell Grassley to go F@#% himself. So Congress came to the idea of a special tax that would only apply to people who work for companies getting government bailouts that make more than $250,000 and got bonuses - this would essentially get the governments money back. This led Republicans to howl about now the government will take everyone's house and car and the clothes off their back because 90% tax rates are back in style. No ideas about how to deal with the economic shit, just hysterics in response to any proposal. GOP - Got 0 Plan. |

See what I mean, Johnny? The two sides will NEVER work together to solve anything. Neither side is interested in that - because divisiveness serves both sides' purposes.

Haven't we had ENOUGH of the political bashing YET??
Neither side is going to convince the other side. It is fine to have strong beliefs, but is your bashing needed here? It seems that some people here are just looking for verbal jousting matches. It has gotten where I don't open a lot of threads, because it sounds like another fucking bashing contest. Enough is enough!! It has gotten WAY out of control, in my mind. I thought that once the election was over with, we would get a MUCH needed breather ... But NOOOO!!!! GEEZE! >:( Chuck, who now has ANOTHER thread not to open ... |

Scott, my friend. While I must agree with you I'm afraid at this point we are at this point: [smiley=deadhorse2.gif] There is to much invested at this point to back off and take a look at the direction the President is taking us. Some know where he would like us to go and are happy with it. All we can do is hope there is anything left to salvage in 2010.

Really Chuck? I got a different jist from this thread. Just a few people chit-chattin. Everything is respectful, even a few facts got thrown in from Monty. Seems harmless to me. We all know who the kool-aid drinkers are anyway, right? ;) |

You have a point Chuck. This thread...although fun....illustrates that the internet has allowed us to read and delve deeper and deeper into only blogs with which we agree. Not good.
I love it that Bush was the one who started us on this economic recover trip. It ain't easy is it? George Bush's unfettered free market did a helluva job the last 8 years. Charlie |
