Title: whooops!!! Post by midwestbeth on Mar 31st, 2009 at 3:18pm
I have been backing out of my garage for a decade with no problems or mishaps......until this morning. :-/
Caught the bottom of the garage door with the roof of my car (small suv) right where the brake light is. Looks like that can possibly be buffed out. I'm not sure about the garage door. It's slightly bowed at the bottom and the seal strip needs to be reattached. Crap I haven't told John yet..........crap x2 Beth.......who needs to slow down |

<tsk, Tsk, TSK!>
Crazy wimmin drivers! (Of course I will NOT tell you how I got our conversion van {with the extended height roof} into my garage, knocking down a support beam, and the rest of the house resting on the crushed in roof of the van ... ) At least YOU are ok ... Or at least you are NOW ... Not saying your condition after fessin' up to the MAN ... Chuck |

LMAO Chuck! I feel better now.
Everyone feel free to cheer me up with their own experience's/disasters of doing something as simple as backing out of or pulling into the garage. I know I'm not the only one. ::) |

Sorry I can't share any like experiences Beth, but I've learned to never ever EVER park a car 8 feet in front of a 12 foot high portable basketball hoop the night before a windstorm.
Lets just say that dragging the hoop by way of it replacing the space once taken up by a front windshield isn't a good idea.... |

I back my truck out of the garage, swing it around to the right (into a turn-around) and then drive out of my driveway (rather than backing all the way down the drive). Someday, I know someone is going to park there and I'm going to damage them but good. It's only a matter of time - I know it. . . . :-/ |

Two new foam core 9 foot garage doors one year.....then 16 y/o backs out in a hurry and removes the bottom half of one door. Unable to raise or lower door.....Jeep stuck in garage. Dad glad he's on blood pressure meds for CH.
Two years later, I still can't laugh about that one. ::) |

Another reason I don't believe in having power garage doors.

Not a garage story, but backing up I learned my lesson about backing out from a storefront onto a main street years ago. Thought I was in the exit driveway but my rear wheels dropped down a square six inch curb doing a nice job to the underside and scraping lower body on both sides. Unable to go forward up the curb, I had to continue backing up scraping a little more lower body until the front wheels dropped finishing my custom job to the fender parts and more in front of those wheels.
in my annals of idiocy, garages are good to hide in, too. |

My sister in law backed her Explorer out of her garage with the back side door opened. I don't have a garage thank goodness. I have had my share of backing up accidents. The last one was when I backed out of a parking space at the same time as another person in the drug store parking lot. My car was only 6 months old and that little "buffing" was estimated between $450 and $600. I never fixed it.

That is tragic... :'( My son put our new $500.00 weed wacker on the driveway behind my van. Backed up all the way over it. The small four wheeler almost met the same fate. We had to sit the kids down and tell them to never ever leave anything on the driverway ever, period. |

My mom backed over my little brother. Fortunately he was ok. Although he joined a religous order, I wonder if the two are related?
Hmm....things that make you go hmmmm.... :) |

It was cold. My daughter had 6 or 7 kittens who were all over the place. I'm in park in the garage. I turn on the engine and put it in reverse. Guess where cats like to perch when it's cold outside. On the top of my tires. I'll spare you the rest.
I keep my 02 tanks in the garage...right next to my 67 Mercury which I baby like it really WAS a baby. I get hit...I go out to my tanks and it becomes one of those hits from hell. I'm thrashing around and pacing dragging my tanks to and fro and never(until it was over) saw that I had totally side-swiped my car with the regulator. Looked like someone had "keyed" it. |

My daughter clipped the side of the garage door opening with her golf cart this weekend.
Busted on her pretty heavily... 'you aimed for the 20ft wide piece of air and missed'. The cart is fine. The aluminum wrapping on the wall it torn to shit. [smiley=frown.gif] |

I was inside the house, walked into the garage and pressed the button to open the door.
Got in my car and pressed the button inside the car to open it again. Then, I backed directly into the door. I did what Pat fears too, almost. I drove to my house in my Dad's truck, got something and hopped in one of my cars. Then I came screaming out of my driveway, completely forgetting I just parked my Dad's truck right there. The pucker factor went off the chart as I stood on the brakes....... |

sadly , I've done that twice - actually twice in the same year. :-[Husband parked behind me ( didn't have a garage) was in a hurry, made mental note as I was getting into the car that his car was there, got sidetracked and hit it. Hard enough for there to be a major dent and needed about 1500 in repair work same year, same house. Had friends over. One friend parked behind me, had to run out for something , backed into to her car. Again, enough damage, that she needed a rental car for week while car was in the shop. That was 8 or 9 years ago and hasn't happenned again since... ( knock on wood) ;) |

Unfortunately, I couldn't take the offense since we have two garage doors and the one that got hit is mine. :-/
After telling me I need to slow down, asking why I didn't wait until the garage door was all the way up, blah, blah, blah, John looked at the door and said he could fix it. 8-) If I didn't have the back up beepers, I know I would have taken out the garage door by now. |
