Post by gore2424 on Apr 9th, 2009 at 2:27pm
Smoking Ü but its only the 2nd day BUT I have 8 weeks worth of patches (thank you VA) to help and I have the will power to really really want to quit too. Going to store today to get myself healthy snaks to help with the cravings also. Plus have a list of things to do when I do get the urge #(1) work on my models {need to finish the two I am sending to ST. Louis for the convention's auction} #(2) clean the basement so I have room to get the Jeff Gordon diecast (I inherited when my dad passed away in april 08) in order so I can start selling them on Ebay and thur the local classified adds which are free online here. #(3) need to put rear brake shoes and hardware on my 2000 Daewoo Lanos #(4) retile floor and paint walls on the upstairs bathroom. #(5) When weather is better super clean, wax ,shine, inside and out my 2002 Chevy Caviler . #(5) Do whatever my wifey says needs done with the house lol Ü ok I have more on my list but as you can tell I will keep myself busy enough to not think about ah about ah what was I thinking about ah oh yes smoking see already almost forgot Ü Terry

That's awesome Terry!  I always found the first 48 hours are the worst, and then it gets nothing but better from there.

Here for you!

You can do it!

Every thirty seconds when the 'beast' says you need a smoke, your reply is "I DON'T SMOKE". Period. Not, I'm trying to quit, I don't smoke anymore, well, just this one.....HELL NO.

I DON'T SMOKE!

Congratulations on your success! :)

You know!
the craving your'e going through right now and i should know will decrease, just look toward another day and each day will make you more resolute and want not to go back to them smoke filled days,
One day at a time and you will do it.
It does get easier believe me
Colin.

Terry, just another tip that might help you. I read "Alan Carr's easy way to quit smoking" and I found it helped me immensely.

The biggest part of quitting for me was the fact I REALLY wanted to quit, and that was a big part of the battle.

Here I am 3-1/2 years smoke free and loving it. You will make it!!!!!

Angie will be smoke free 8 weeks come this Monday! Go girl!!! She also read the book. We both did it cold turkey, but that is us. 8-)

4 years smoke free here.  Agrees with Melissa.  The first 48 hours are the toughest, after that, the physical cravings are gone.  Don't regret it one bit.

Update its now almost over 4 days and still havent even thought of a ciggy. Ü Wifey been a big help by going outside to smoke. When it gets to me really bad I have picture of granddaughter taped to bathroom mirror Ü to remind me that I want to be around to dance at her wedding Ü she is only 5 1/2 years old. I also have a box of pretzel sticks PLUS I got a box of the cereal straws that can go into mouth to fight the urge. I am really really proud of myself I have been smoking since I was 17 am now 54 and only quit once for a total of 7 weeks of course had to because I collapsed a lung. So in closing I think I will go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and get the book you all say helps. Thank you for the kind words Ü Terry

Good for you!  It gets a whole lot easier as time passes (unless of course, you decide to attend a clusterhead convention when you are only 4 months smoke free  ::)).

Wonderful!!! Absolutely wonderful!!! I admire anyone with the guts to stop that nasty monkey from climbing on their back all the time. Who knows what that nasty monkey does back there ::). I stopped smoking about 6 years ago and I discovered that 1. It is impossible to drink water and smoke at the same time even if you put the ciggy in your nose and 2. It is very hard to smoke in the shower. Last ditch efforts in case you need them. Way to go!!!! Yippee!!!! Good for you!!!! Sophia :)

The owner of the card shop gave me a jersey card of my favorite HOF retired player Robin Yount from the BREWERS as a gift he is such a nice guy. Thanking you all for the kind words and the vibes I feel coming from you all thank you thank you. Terry (lucky should win the Iowa POWERBALL tomorrow cause I feel so lucky Ü)
