Title: Farewell my Lilly
Post by Artonio on Apr 10th, 2009 at 7:31pm
This morning Ben and I had to confront the inevitable. It was very sad. Lilly has been suffering from cancer and it had gotten to the point where she was suffering too much. We took her to the vets this morning for her farewell. She went very quickly and quietly as I held her. We brought her home and will have a proper burial on Sunday.

Lilly was 12 years old, was never married and is survived by her sister Paula and a step brother Rasco and her two daddies Tony and Ben.  She enjoyed teaching young sparrows in the awnings how to sing and endless hours of grooming in the sun. Interment will be this sunday beneath the birdbath in the back yard.

Rest in peace my little baby kitty Lilly.

Oh Tony...I'm so very sorry.  The loss of a beloved pet is so heart breaking.  You all were so lucky....Lilly for having you as her family and you and Ben for having her share in your lives.

She was beautiful.

Love to you all,

Sorry to hear about Lilly, Tony.

Been about a year since we lost Fitz (who looked an awful lot like Lilly).  Although the youngling, Etta, with her whoop-em-up ways is a welcome addition to the household, I miss Fitz's head-to-head bump to welcome me home.  The fellow had gravitas...you know?  A proper cat, all the way around.

All the best to you and Ben.

I lost my best mate Samson early he was only 5, we have his ashes at home, perhaps that sounds sad but i could'nt bear to think of him anywhere other than with us.
I suppose someday we'll find the right place for him,
It's one of the hardest times in your life and I do appreciate that.
Keep your chin up Tony

I know you had thought about this, due to her condition, but it is never the right time.

My heart goes out to the two of you.

Tony,
I'm so sorry to hear about Lilly.  She was a beauty, wasn't she?
After living with 5 of em for 15 yrs, we lost the last 3 last year. I inherited my Mom's cat, Imp, and Gil got a little tigerstriped guy, and, though they NEVER fill the empty spot in our hearts, we are enjoying them both.
Meanwhile, Lilly is no longer in pain, and she has plenty of company. I hope the memories of her loving ways will soften the blow of losing her.

I am so sorry  :'(.

The Last Battle

If it should be, that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do, what must be done?
For the last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
But don't let grief, then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship, must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
When the time comes, hold back your fears
You wouldn't want me to suffer so,
Please, won't you please, let me go?

Take me where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me close and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

In The Rainbow Garden

 Your tears fall
Your heart aches
Your baby has gone away
Gone to heaven to play
The memories remain
Of the happy days
A meow and a purr
As you feel the soft fur
You gave your love
No more could you do
A short life of joy
For your baby and you
Off to heaven
your angel has gone
but within your heart
the love will live on
Standing in sorrow
and in your mind's eye
look into heaven
and please do not cry
For there in the Rainbow garden
Stands God and in his arms
An angel softly purring
It's your baby, safe from harm

Thank you all for your kind words.

I have a question... do you think it might be a good or bad idea to let Paula see Lilly before we bury her. Paula has been wondering around the house looking for her sister.

any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe not.  She's not going to understand what has happened (I don't think so anyway).  I don't think it would adversely affect her though.

I'm an animal guy. I swear there will be no more when my heart gets ripped from my chest at the loss.

I'm sitting here typing with one hand because the other is patting the head of an 11 month old rescued dog who selected me at the Humane Society.  It almost feels like my heart is growing back into the big hole that was still there until now.

My thoughts are with you, man.

Tony - Paula is another kitty? If so, I would let her see. It seemed to help our dog get a grip of what was happening when the other one passed on.

Very sorry about your Lilly.

It really amazes me how those totally horrible feelings don't quite go away but they do heal and somehow we allow another pet to come into our life. I told my husband on a Tueday night when we put our dog to sleep that I didn't want another dog to rip my heart out yet several days later we were puppy shopping. This is my 6th dog and I have wonderful memories of the first 5. I hope things get a bit easier for you and Ben.

Tony, I'm so sorry.   [smiley=heart.gif]  I know pieces of your hearts went with her.

[smiley=hug.gif] to you and Ben.  Scritches to poor Paula.  Whether or not you let her see her sister's body, please just explain to her what happened.  It may help, and give her lots of extra love.
