DING DING DING.....we have a winner. They are sea shells, gathered, washed, sorted and made into flowers and then arranged by my Mother.
When Mom and Dad retired to Florida they spent almost every day walking on the beach. My Mom was fascinated by the shells and could not walk past a pretty one....even the tiny ones. I got her a book on Floirida shells so she would know what they all were and the stories behind their names. Anyway...in the very back of the book were a couple pictures of shell crafts. Most all was tacky stuff but there was one picture of a flower. It was not very well done but I said to Mom....you could improve on that and use some of you shells for something to display. She say..Oh, Sis I can't do that but I asked her to just try it. She did try and has turned out many bouquets. I took a couple to some boutiques and upscale art places. They were interested in having some for sale. It's Mom's little hobby and has turned out profitable too. Here's a closer picture... Jackie that's one of the loveliest things I've ever seen - and to know it was made by your mother makes it a prize beyond any pearl those shells could have ever contained ((HUG))
love to you as always Helen xxx |

Very lovely. I'm a shell person too. Love looking at them I mean. I have some in our bathroom, not nearly as lovely as those though.

Damn Jax... that is just BEAUTIFUL. I have to say, my girl here has a good eye and guessed on the second look and said.. "omg, are those seashells???" She was blown away.
I collect LOTS of seashells. Got 'em coming out of my ears. It's an aesethic pleasure for me, though I don't think I could come even close to what your mother has done. She has talented hands and an artistic eye, God bless her. Pepp & Cheeki :) |

Had to go to the Easter Egg hunt with the family today, so did not get to see the close up pic until now. How surprised I was to find out they are shells! Jackie, tell your mom they are just amazing and so unique!

OMG I thought they were carved and dyed bones or ivory. That is just beautiful!!!! A real museum piece someday. Would you please post the name of the book she got the pattern out of? Pretty please? And you have a really pretty dining room in which to set them off. Since I live in Denmark and am surrounded my sea on all sides I would love to try this myself. Thank you so much for sharing.
Sophia :) |

That is a real piece of art, just the time taken to collect and wash the shells is a feat in its self let alone arranging it.
Well done to your mum. |

She has really worked the common and ordinary of seaside wash into a whole much more amazing than a sum of the parts. Very beautifully done, Jackie.

Yes, she sells them. None as large as mine though but almost. The one on my dining table weighs as least 30 lbs. I found a couple of decorator boutiques and art galleries where she sold some. Now she has a following and people call her. The problem is they are very hard to ship so people hand carry them home. My oldest son was the first grandchild to get one. He and his wife were so thrilled they almost forgot the kids at the airport. ;) I called and read this thread to her. She was so touched and thrilled by what you all said. I'm to thank you all for her....you made her day! Love ya, Jackie |
