Title: Tiny 02 pushers! Post by Pixie-elf on Apr 21st, 2009 at 11:38pm
Pretty much everyone who has heard this has cracked up laughing.
So, I'm still babysitting my nephews, and the 2 year old (he just turned 2 sunday) finally met my 02 tank last month. His first response was to hate it, and would tell me to turn it off. "OFF." "No." "OFFFFFF!!!!" So during these exchanges, little Jose, the 4 year old would come up. "Marcos, Yumi needs that for her headaches." And he'd come kiss my arm, or hug it, which usually made Marcos a bit braver. Last week, we were watching him, he bumped his head (not hard enough to actually HURT him) and I asked "Did the baby get a headache?" "Yeah! Yeah!" and he ran over to my oxygen tank, and started to tap on the regulator. "...You think you need oxygen?" "OXYGEN!!!" So now, if he bumps his head, he informs you he needs oxygen. At Marcos' birthday party, little Jose's cousins noticed the tank and asked about it so he started to tell them I had special headaches and needed it for them. PFDAN everyone! Mystina |

Sweet story...!
on the rare occasions my wee girl catches me on the 02 her brother who is 11 always tries to take her away by saying "come on daddy has one of his headaches". As stubborn as she is she gives the same reply "No I want to watch because he looks really daft and silly" and then she asks me what flavour is it . :) Kids you gotta love em.... Lefty... |

I answered the question of 'what does it taste/smell like?" by letting them both stick their face in the mask and sniff. I figured it'd do better than I could describe it to them. They also both are pretty curious, if they notice I have something new that I'm doing, they both ask me about it. When I had to start taking b12, then DHE injections, they both asked me about it CONSTANTLY until I finally brought some shorts over to their house, and took a shot while they watched. This pretty much cured them of wanting to see what it was. They were amazed I did not cry when I took shots. Marcos has a list he goes through if he notices I'm having a hit. "Oxygen?" "Shot?" "Nose?" (Lidocaine.) He finally stopped asking me to take shots after watching me take them for a week... Although little Jose still asks me to take them. They did ask me what my nasal spray was like... "Does it smell like bubblegum?!" Little Jose asked me...and I started to laugh pretty hard and he wanted to know what was so funny. I told him I WISHED it smelled like bubblegum. :D |

Pix,
I've always let my Caleb be "involved" (stops a lot of questions). When I was giving his Papaw shots - his job was to hold Papaw's hand while Granny "shot" him so it wouldn't hurt Papaw. He'd frown while the procedure was going on, but took his job seriously and Papaw always thanked him for keeping Granny from hurting him. The funny thing is when he's had to go to the doc for lab tests and I've taken him, I hold his hand while they take blood and he doesn't protest cause Granny holding his hand keeps it from hurting. You might try letting them pat your shoulder or something while you inject yourself so it won't hurt you. Make them feel a part of it - like they're helping you. With my O2, he always has "hypochondia" when I get on it and needs a sniff or two to make it go away. He's fine after he gets his sniff, but he feels involved. Hugs BD |
