Title: Quick Question
Post by blawrence on Apr 28th, 2009 at 10:49pm
My husband Bobby suffers terribly with CH's and recently he's been losing weight.  Have any of you or yours experienced weight loss with these headaches?

Most of the time during my cycle i have an appetite loss.  i have been in this cylce since janusry 29th and i have lost 10 pounds.  there are days though when i am absolutley starving to death and want to eat everything in sight.  i don't know if the meds cause the appetite loss or just fighting the pain every night.  i'm sure there some on this board that can tell you a lot more about wright loss for they have suffered with CH longer than i have.

I WISH that was the case for me!!!

Unfortunately, the inverse seems to be the case for this period of high cycle ... (I am chronic)

when episodic...typically lost 5-10 lbs during every cycle (at 6' 3" and 185 before, that was significant)...didn't want to eat, couldn't care less about food...

now chronic and I can probably beat Chuck to the pantry... have been up to 201 lbs, when I started losing track of the interesting things below my navel and determined to exhibit some self control...back to 185, but I hafta be careful...it aint easy.

there's lots more things to worry about dear than a little weight loss
(yeah, he says smugly) but really, what worked for me toward the end of episodic was multiple little snacks throughout the day (a big meal was nauseating even at the thought)...high calorie, thoughtless munching kept my weight, and more importantly for the fight, my energy up...

Best wishes,

Jon

Hello, i almost always lose at least 10 -15 pounds each time i was in cycle. Eating just seems 2nd or 3rd on my list of what to do during that time. Also there are so many things that trigger my ch during cycle, so i can understand. Go to gnc and get some weight gain. its pricey but well worth it. And make sure he has a glass a day.

thanks you guys...I just worry so much about him just as the are those that worry about you.  He's 6'7" and 180 lb, when he drops weight it just scares me.  I keep reading that you all have to keep to a schedule and you must eat and "try" to sleep as regularly as possible so I keep trying to pump him full of calories so I will definetely hit the GNC for the weight gain...thanks for the tip!

Take care and I'm hoping only the best for you all :)

That's one of the side effects I haven't had to endure yet. Not suprising though considering  how much it buggers up your day to day scheduling!

[smiley=hug.gif] That's for being a supporter. My wife has hung with me thru 29 of my 31 CH years! Don't know what we'd do without our supporters! ;)

Well if he happens to go to the doc, and get prednisone, that should end.  it always blows me up by 10 pounds.
maybe some protein shakes

good luck

I have lost up to 30lbs during the first 5 weeks of a cycle. Things like Ensure did not help this. Only once the cycle was over did I get the lbs. back.

Trying to control the attacks is probably more important. I have read CH research that says our digestive tracts shut down during bad hits, and this complicates the problem. If you google CH & digestive tract, you'll find some info.

Without a good abortive such as Oxygen, Imitrex or other triptans, the CH hits can be all consuming leaving us very drained with no appetite at all.

For me, if I stop an attack I can usually eat right after, but if I go through a full hit I don't want to eat for, and really can't, for many hours to a day. There have been times that I could only eat crackers for 2 days. Sad but true.

Please tell Bobby we know what he's going through and are here to try and help. Finding some control over the beast is difficult but not impossible. Read and ask, to fight back.

Prayers to you both, Don
