Title: Old sleeping Remedies....
Post by Lefty on May 2nd, 2009 at 9:04am
Same old story.... Every time I come out of cycle i find it difficult to re stablish my sleeping patterns. I have also recently took on a number of night shifts in relation to work because i can't sleep so I figured might as well get paid for sitting up, although i must admit this isn't helping at all...

Is there any old Granny remedies in Clusterville that would help a grumpy old insomniac get a decent nights sleep... [smiley=sleep.gif] [smiley=sleep.gif] [smiley=sleep.gif]

Melatonin is one remedy you could try.  Also, cut down or eliminate caffeine drinks.

If you can get your hands on a sleeping aid with some kick (Valium, Xanax, etc) try ingesting 2 hours before your preferred night-night time. Hopefully you'll be tired enough to actually sleep and wake up at a reasonable time.

Catnip/camomile/valerian root.

Each alone, or in combination as a hot tea with honey before bed can help sleep as well.

It's not really related but after one of my several trips to the bathroom every night, I just eat a tiny piece of bread. The short sugar high ends and knocks me out every time.

Melatonin is tops on my list.

In addition to the herbs mentioned above,

Skullcap (scutellaria)
Passion flower
Lemon Balm
Hops
kava kava

Yes Kava kava is good too...

However, preparation of the powder is rather involved, but prepared tinctures are pretty easy to deal with, although the taste is rather displeasant to most.

Working myself on a pleasing tasting tincture of KK myself.  Not perfected yet.
