Title: Sty(s)...??? Post by Redd on May 2nd, 2009 at 9:48pm
Odd thing to happen but input would be welcome.
My Left eye has been itchy/watery and waking up crusty for some weeks now. I'd assumed it was due to being in high cycle, and that it was transient symptoms due to RC seed therapy. Well recently the lower eye lid has been getting more and more red and itchy, and I looked a couple days ago, and there was a small white spot on the inside of the lower eyelid. That spot has since grown, and there is a second lump about the same size, but not white. Just normal lid color. The outside of the lid is just a bit red and itchy. Those lumps on the inside have me a bit concerned. Should I be? Am I worried over nothing? |

I have had a few similar symptoms in the past I'm sure its nothing to worry about!! Get it checked anyway Colin. |

Thanks Colin,
But if you weren't aware, I'm currently unemployed (laid off permanently since September) and un-insured. I guess I wouldn't be concerned if it weren't getting worse over the weeks instead of better. BTW..whats happeing with the state of Newsquest newspapers on your side of the pond? |

For what it's worth, Pegg - my grandmother used to put a wet tea bag on my sister's eye when she had a sty. No idea why or how that worked, but it did.
I'm guessing it wouldn't do any harm even if it didn't do any good. Carol |

My wife gets those and can usually treat em with OTC eye drops. They're sure buggy as hell!

Pegg, I had one the night before my wedding. The 'old lady' who was our neighbor said the same as Carol...a hot teabag. IT WORKS!
Please, try this method, also try not to mess with it. Since I am one of those Non-sufferers, but my eyes have been making me buggy, (and I have insurance)......I went to the Dr. He said we are in an allergy season to beat all allergy seasons......the OTCs work to an extent, but I had to ramp up to prescription allergy meds, because my sinuses were mucked up something fierce(that's the morning granular eye) Itchiness, and, with foreign matter-and, believe it or not, stress, it stands to reason you are a prime suspect for sties.........leave em alone, except for the (not herbal, now... real 'caffeineated' Lipton, hot teabags, and try not to worry bout it, can you do that? Of course, keep us posted. Cathi |

Tea has a chemical in it called *tannin*. It works to shrink the inflammation and draw the bad stuff out. You can also by OTC sty medicine at any pharmacy.

I've suffered from sties all my life - the teabag is a definite help. It helps to sooth as well as reduce the inflammation. Additionally, the doctor showed us how to locate the source - usually an ingrown eyelash. IF you can clearly see the center of the sty and find the offending lash, then use tweezers to pull it out - it will hurt like a son of beetch but it works. ONLY do this if you can absolutely identify the center and find the lash. Then be sure to clean the eye very thoroughly.
They are a pain in the rump, but usually aren't cause for concern. Just be sure to keep your eyes clean so you don't get an infection on top of the sty itself. Cat |

Sorry about the work situation and i'm afraid like you I've been out of work since january first time in 35 years.
We dont have any problems going to the docs here, NHS!!! There's 300 newsquest editions in the Uk but none around where i live so I don't really know whats going on with them. Keep your pecker up and get it sorted.. Colin. |
