Title: Triggered by the weather?
Post by Inventive_Mind on May 7th, 2009 at 4:08am
Does the weather trigger or effect your CH attacks?

I disagree with the Neurologist on the weather triggering my attacks, I can tell by watching the weather report if I’m going to get a bad attack. During an attack period I can tell when one is emanate. When a storm rolls in (Pressure Drop) and when it rolls out the period right after a storm and the new weather pattern sets up (Pressure rise). My Neurologist says there is not any documented proof that weather affects medical conditions, even CH’s.

Has anyone else noticed this?
If you have or have not any ideas how to combat it?

Thanks,

~James

Hello,

I am definitely triggered by weather changes and I know there are others here that have the same experience. To help with it - just be prepared with your abortives. Unless it is seasonal changes and you can notice a pattern, thereby taking some preventatives.

Sorry that's not a great answer! I'm sure others will be along to provide some better info.

I don't have any magic bullet to help combat this condition, but you are not alone in the pressure changes effecting your clusters.  I LOVE watching Mother Nature do her thing, yet I rarely get to watch it, because I am in doing my own battle with the beast.

There may not be documented proof of this phenomenon, but it is real and DOES happen to many of us.  That cantankerous and ornery old broad  ;) BarbaraD is also another one that gets nailed when the pressure drops.  (She is gonna KILL me ... BWAHAHAHAHA!!)

I just do my battle in my normal way, with very high flow O2.  It is much harder to abort, when dealing with the pressure change, but it eventually does work.  If not, then I resort to the Imitrex stab.

Yes 99%,6 hours before raining i am already heavy shadowing.
Also when wind changes from north to south and vise versa.
But i dont know what happens with that 1% when i am not affected and  have no idea how to combat it in general. :-?

I always had a bad reaction to low pressure systems in the past, but it seems we have morphed into high pressure systems moving in are now a big trigger.
Bottom line,  yes weather affects CH,, big time!!! :P

Maybe that's why today has been so bad....a big storm is headed our way.  It's either that or weaning off the Topamax, or combination of both.  Whatever it is, it can go away. :'(

Major fluctuations in the weather can trigger a cycle for me.  For instance:

1.  In 2007, I had a cycle that came on with a vengeance in February.  For most of January 2007, we had warmer than normal temps.  Well, winter came back bigtime in late Jan/early Feb.  During the last week Jan. and the first week of Feb., our temps went from an average of 40F (high for Jan.) to -5 or -10F.  By the first week of Feb. I was having major CH attacks with Kip 8s and Kip 9s, right and left.

2.  Spring 2006 - normally, as an ECH sufferer, I don't get CH in the spring.  Wellll, that was definitely NOT THE CASE during April & May 2006, when I got CH with major attacks oftentimes twice a day (my coworkers sure made enough comments, when they saw me having CH - all relating to dealing with migraines, grrrrr!!!!).  The only thing my Neurologist and I could figure out, was that the weather was bringing them on.  Because during April, our temps wildly fluctuated.  We'd have a few days of 60F and 70F weather, and then temps would drop down to about 30F or 40F.  This didn't just happen over the period of a week.  This cycle of alternating warm and cold temps went on for most of the month of April.  During one of these temperature swings, we went from 70F one day, down to sleet and snow the next day!  The resultant Kip 7 CH (which occurred while I was running errands during my lunch break) was such a joy!!!

3.  The present cycle I'm in - this cycle started in March.  I've never had CH in March.  Once again, as in instance #2, during March and part of April, we were going through major temperature fluctuations.  Luckily, it seems to be settling down bit by bit (lately I'm only getting hit with minor attacks).

Weather doesn't play a role in CH - yeah, right!!!!!!

Weather has been a major trigger for me. I love a good snow storm, but I hate the CH that comes with them.

Yep, Chuckles is right -- I'm a better weather predictor than that nice man on TV. Can call a storm the day before -- just let the barometer start doing its thing and my O2 tank gets a workout for sure.

And right now it's going to rain down here in East Texas..... my tomatoes love it but my head is a mess....

Hugs BD :-*

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the input, I have documenting everything this cycle. I went to see my GP today and threw some new ideas by him and he did this chuckle thing and said, "You know so much more about this than I do so anything you think that may work give it a try and let me know" LOL  ;D at least hes not saying I'm crazy. He has told me to write everything down for my appointment with neurology so it has "Validity" apparently if you just say something it's not really true until it's in writing. Don't worry I'm not using names or even references I have been putting down (during my research I have found) and hopefully they will ad it to their knowledge and come up with something new.

But it's nice to know I'm  not the only CH barometer walking around :P
