Title: Little Trip
Post by Charlie on May 7th, 2009 at 7:42pm
I'm headed for Mansfield, Ohio tomorrow for our annual bottle and antique show. I no longer make much but anything that gets me out and off my butt is good....only until Sunday though....

Oh Charlie, I have so many antiquated things I wish you could sell for me a t a profit of course...Most of them German knives, medals,    and steins and stuff like that.

I wish you enough luck my friend that you will be ablew to make it to the convention.   :-*

Linda,

I have a stein collection as well... mostly Mettlach, but a few regimental steins (original, not repro).  Got pics?

I read the title of this post and for a moment there, Charlie, I thought maybe you had gotten into someone's shroom stash.......

Enjoy the weekend/road trip.

A little antiquated find for the prospecting bug in you.  A West Virginia company briefly used uranium as a dye for a line of dishes innocuously known as Fiesta Ware, I've read.  Got the pack mule and pickaxe still around, old-timer?   ;)

Thanks kids.

Geeze. You people have great stuff. I sold all my Mettlachs and German stuff....Get some pictures kids. You never know what some of that stuff is worth. The Nazi collectors are a trip but they usually have money. Steins are easier to deal with and fun. Regimentals are doing very well now. The Fiesta Ware story is true and it was widely collected a few years ago. I've not seen so much of it lately.

Anyway, I'm back and paid for the trip anyway. Getting away from my little town is good for my mental health. One thing the three of us notice is that most of these shows are populated by a lot of gray hair. Not many younger types have the collecting bug from our experience. It takes some serious liking for history to really get into this stuff.

One of my friends digs dinosaurs in Montana and has found some good stuff. An other is a local historian and likes to share old letters...mostly Civil War... with us. The latest ones were appeals to Lincoln and the Sanitary Commision to stop referring to the "wound cure" drug he was selling as being produced by a quack. What's not to not be interesting, even to kids?

Anyway, I had a good time, ate way too much and got to talk with a lot of old friends. Now I have catch up.

Charlie
