Title: Loss of consciousness Post by Lottie on May 7th, 2009 at 7:48pm
Hello,
The past few weeks I've done a lot of reading on this site, and found much great and helpful info. I didn't read anything about anyone fainting regularly. Well, that's what happens to me. It happens when I'm shadowing, it happens just after a visit from the Beast, and sometimes it happens during an attack. It's also happened before I got any meds precribed for this, so it's not related to drugs. Why it does happen I don't know. Exhaution? Pain (during a hit)? Something else? So my question is: does anyone else recognize this? It could be, of course, that it's not the CH causing it. I'm just curious about this. Lottie |

I've never had this happen to me. I've become light headed and dizzy when it hits, but never pass out.....I hope you find out the cause, and have someone around you when it happens.

Hi Lottie, can't say that I have experienced loss of consciousness.
I would suggest that you make arrangements to see your neurologist as soon as possible Be proactive, look out for yourself. Please let us know how you are doing! Iddy |

Hon...I truley think you may have something else going on here besides CH.
been chronic now for 21 years. Never had that happen. Have talked to maybe thousands of CH'ers...never once did I hear that from them in 11 years I've been around here. get thee to a Dr. |

I agree, get thee to a doctor, and have it checked out!
BUT, having said that, I had a similar reaction, when I first came down with clusters. That and total amnesia for the whole episode. THAT is one of the reasons it was so difficult to get the proper diagnosis. I would pass out, or go into a semi comatose state, and I could not be woken up. It would last for up to an hour, before I came back around. Then I would not remember the attack at all. Sometimes up to an hour before and after I woke back up, I would have no recollection of. They never did find out what was causing that. The guess that has been given to me, since then, is that the pain was so severe, that my body would shut down, and my mind would wipe it out, so that I could survive. I don't know if that is what happened, or not, but I suppose it could be what happened. That lasted for about the first ten years of this battle with the beast. and then it just went away. Many times I wish for that condition to come back so that I can't remember the pain. Now, for the past year or two, it is not unusual for me to forget what happened immediately before, during, or immediately after a hit. The other day, during a hit, my ex-wife stopped over, and I got up, unlocked the door, and let her in. I then went back to fighting the beast. After the hit was over, she scared the shit out of me, when she said something. I had no idea she was there. I do not remember letting her in, at all. Lately, I have had some problems with my equilibrium, and blanking out, or passing out. But not necessarily around a hit. The doctors, again, could find no cause for this. So, although it is extremely rare, it did happen to me, at least. BUT, that does not give you an excuse to skip seeing your doctor about this! Chuck |

Yes, but then I went forward and proved how WRONG you are! You said that in 11 years, you never heard of that happening. I KNOW I have mentioned this before ... YOU just ignored me! :'( Going to go cry in the corner now .... Chuck, the Crybaby |

Perhaps its from the anxiety of the Clusters?

A few years ago, I did pass out once after a particularly brutal attack. I had been chatting with Magick (John Thayer another clusterhead) by web cam and the kids were here and it scared them to bits.
I think for me, it was like Chuck had said above, my body had to simply shut down. |

Title: Re: Loss of consciousness Post by Lefty on May 8th, 2009 at 11:41am
I have never experienced this myself. I would go with the advice mentioned above as it may be something underlying or it's just your body's own personal strategy in coping with the pain. In any case definitely mention it to your neuro, he or she may have an answer for you.
Take care Lefty...! |
Title: Re: Loss of consciousness Post by Lottie on May 8th, 2009 at 1:23pm
I did mention it to my neuro. He doesn't have an explanation either. But I have had an MRI and some more tests, no results, so it can't be anything real serious I guess.
Perhaps it's something like what Chuck experienced before, although I wake up a lot sooner. Lottie |

I've never been lucky enough to lose conciousness during a hit. My PTSD completely blocks out the WORST hits.
I did have dizziness on Verap, and Cardizem. You could also have something going on like an ear infection, or a blood pressure problem. If you've got a sinus infection, it could also cause this. Either way? You need to see a doctor. |

Hi Lottie,
I've never passsed out during CH. But, I have had a few instances, where after particularly long and vicious attacks in the late afternoon, I've been so exhaused, that if I was at home, I just wound up collapsing on the couch, and taking a 2 or 3 hour nap. Ellen |

Ok Chuck plus thong woaaa.... :o to much info for me
Back to Fainting, at the end of a bad attack or my preception of the end I will sometimes go into a semi-comatose state. Everything relaxes and I cannot experience the pain anymore. I know it's there I just don't feel it. I know the brain will shut down if extreme pain triggers a (safety regulator so to say) and will shut down the body and pain receptors then conscience if necessary. I think this is what happens to me during bad attacks, my body just shuts down to protect itself. And then 30 min or an hour later I come too or wake up or whatever you want to call it. I feel you need to be with someone until you know whats going on. Me personally I keep a journal for myself and my doc's so I can monitor what is happening and what works and does not,it also allows me to track changes in my attack cycles. Hopefully someday this will shed some light on what's causing my CH's but so far nothing :'( Keep us updated on what you find ~James |

Thanks for the replies everyone. Seems it's not as rare as I thought it was.
I'll be seeing my neuro again in June, maybe something will turn up. But I doubt it. And I want to thank Chuck particularly for not posting those pics he threatened to. ;) I feel I'm far too innocent for pics like that. ::) :P |
Title: Re: Loss of consciousness Post by Jeannie on May 11th, 2009 at 3:43pm
Thanks for being a sport about your thread being partially hijacked, Lottie. :) Sorry about that.
I've never lost consciousness but have had violent shaking during a bad hit. I don't know if it is due to being so cold or if it's the pain or what.... CH is fun, isn't it? :o Always keeps us guessing! |

Don't be sorry. When I started this thread I just hoped to get some responses. I got that, some good advice AND a laugh. I'd say that's brilliant! Thanks for that, all of you! Lottie |

I would only pass out after a long battle with a KIP 10 & before I found out about o2. My Nuro when questioned said that it was possible that the body would do that at intense pain levels. Best of luck Cheers Barry |

Trust me -- EVERYONE is too innocent for THOSE pics.... I WAS there and speak from EXPERIENCE -- it's just not something ANYONE needs to SEE!!!! Anytime I see PINK - I have flashbacks!!!! [smiley=biggrin.gif]
