Title: Everything stinks.
Post by George on May 12th, 2009 at 4:10pm
Anybody else have increased sensitivity to smells when Ol' F&^kstick is hanging around?  I do.  Must be some sort of hormonal thing.  It's been a while, so I'd forgotten what that was like.

Lately, I can smell a lit match a hundred feet downwind.  Last night I was sitting in the back yard, when I caught an odd musky/doggy scent.  Upon looking around, it turned out there was a male fox in the field back of the house, around fifty feet away.  (He was a cross-fox, too--an unusual color phase of the red fox.  Never saw one before.  But that's neither here nor there.)

People, by the way, smell real bad.  Except me, of course.  Thusfar, I've refrained from telling them so.

An enhanced sense of smell is no picnic.

Best,

George

I feel (smell) your pain, George!   I have a very sensitive nose all the time but, when in cycle, it is out of hand.   I can smell EVERYTHING!   Sometimes even good smells, like the flowers that are blooming right now, are overwhelming.

Yep... People stink! :o

I thought I was a super smell freak until I met you bunch.   ;)

Seriously, I get into arguments with my family because I smell something that they don't.  When the same smell hits them later, they call me a smell freak.  I can't win.  ::)

I have the same problem when in cycle.  Perfume, pot pourri, scented candles or the smell of gas - can all drive me to distraction.

Hiya George,

Guess I'm the lucky one in this bunch ::). Woulda smelled that fox in cycle or out. Like beth, have been a "smell freak" since I was a kid...People thought I was strange (except for Dad, he couldn't smell so I was his nose).

Appropriately...I used to make my living with my nose (seafood buyer, inspector). CH didn't help or hurt my performance. Actually, certains smells are triggers tho (e.g. zinc welding, strong solvents, certain perfumes) but I can usually detect them way before  I get a "hit blast". Colleagues used to consider me strange, in a cat like way, because I would bolt and run for no apparent reason. I stopped trying to explain because they could never smell what I claimed to.

What has always intrigued me...from the opposite side...was the heightened sense of smell a precursor/predictor of "my" CH? Dunno.

Best,

Jon

Yup!!  So much so that I had to make Lily put her perfume on in the morning outside.

That's one CH trait I didn't get. But it's one more reason I thank the good Lord my wife doesn't have CH. Tracking dogs bow to her keen sense of smell......I use unscented deodorant and never consider after shave for fear of facing the wrath of her sense of smell!!!! ;D

Smells well I can detect them but not like you all are describing, during a cycle perfume and cologne are stronger but thats about it. I am also a smoker so my sniffer is abused on a regular basis. But I will take your word on the fact that people smell, I wonder do mean people smell worse than nice people... just a thought [smiley=ohjez.gif]

Now mine is different. I smell things that aren't there. Like bread baking when I'm driving down the road (no way am I baking bread in my truck or even passing a house or anything - it's just there all of a sudden). Weird things that no one else smells - I don't mention them cause they'd think I'm crazy (shut up Chuck!).

Since I have migraines also, I call them auras from migraines (that sounds more "normal").

Hugs BD :-*

The worst smells for me are strong perfumes.  Guaranteed migraine.  I've walked out of restaurants without getting to eat because some ditz at the table next to us was bathed in the smelly stuff.  Ugh......don't these people have friends to tell them they smell like a cheap wh0re?

The worst experience I ever had was on an airplane.  Booked flight, couldn't move, ran off the plane as soon as I could to get to the nearest bathroom.  I wanted to hurt the dumb-ass next to me that was drenched in cologne.  There should be a law against wearing perfume and cologne on airplanes.  If there ever is a next time, I do not think I will be so nice; I may just not make it to the bathroom and let loose on their lap.  >:(

Off my soapbox now.

I'm completely with you Beth. Joe said I have a keen sensitivity to smell and I DO! HATE perfumes and colognes. Even smelly lotions drive me crazy. I used to be able to wear them but stopped at some point when my boss said he was allergic to them. Not sure when I got sensitive but I surely am.

With all the flying around I do I have my stories too. Suffice to say that I use the airvent above my seat alot.
