Title: Lisa's (swimchica) graduation (with pictures )
Post by cash5542 on May 23rd, 2009 at 10:05pm
Lisa completed her Master's of Arts in Teaching and graduated last Thursday morning.  She was also blessed with a job right away. She will be teaching 6th grade History in a middle school 60 miles west of us this fall. This summer she will be the Head Swim coach for the local Elks swim team. We are so proud of her after all of her struggles and perserverance.

Thank you Paul (Opus) for walking me through photo postings!! Also thank you to the many of you who have been her strenghth and support when she developed CH almost 3 years ago. She couldn't have gotten here without your support!!!

Charlotte

You look fantastic there, bright eyes!  Congratulations.

Can be some meaty stuff in 6th grade history, nice job, great going.  And helping young migrating elk to cross rivers in your spare time.  So very nice.

My lil Lisa munchkin grat-euw-ate-ted?  DAYUM!

Ok, Mom and Dad, time to kick her out on her keester!  Make her make LOTS of money, and save 90% of it, so that she can then support you in the manner that you want to become accustomed to!

LOL!!

Good going brat Lisa!  Congrats!

Chuck

Congrats! and all the very best to a young lady who has had to learn to persevere.  Learning to persevere through CH will be even more valuable to you than what you learned in school.  Together theycreate real value.

Charlotte, thanks to you for helping her through all the struggle.  (I'm sure your husband did his part too, but he never posts.  So, you get all the glory! :D

Now go pound some history into those mushy skulls.

Congratulations! Good for you!

Now can you please teach that dog of yours to stay out of the sand traps? ;)

Good Luck! :)

KJ, you would be so proud of us! Maddie is doing great and stays on the path or walks on the ungroomed side. She doesn't even go on the greens and never in the sand traps. At 2 yrs old, I think the training is starting to sink in.

Lefty, your words sound like you swam too. Tell me more. Do you do masters or are you done? The practice routines definately develop perserverance and dedication.

Thank you for all of your good wishes. Lisa will get on when she takes a breath. It's coming soon! She really appreciates reading your posts.

Charlotte

Thank you for all the replies and all the support all the time.  I grew up a lot, learned how to get by on not a lot of sleep OUT of the house..which is different than being in the house doing a lot of work.  That was hard too but this was different.  Really loving what you do is what makes living with whatever you have to live with possible.  If you don't love what you do, then it is hard to get out of bed even if you are "normal."  But if you love what you do, then it is possible to go despite...whatever!  I am happy that my new school is extremely supportive..the intermediate school I worked out was as well.  I am so excited to go, I feel like I am going off to college again!  I will actually have more time to ME as a first year teacher than I did during my internship because I was working 10 hours a week and commuting 1 to 2 hours a day (depending on the school placement).  Now I'll have a little house and less than a 5 minute drive away!
And of course I'll keep y'all updated...probably be on even more since I won't have my mom to peak over her shoulder and update for me...hehe...and I will have so much exciting things to update!!
Thanks again for all your kind wishes and best support always.
Lisa  ;)

Hey Charlotte,

Yup I'm definitely an x swimmer. My dad was and still is head coach of the local club team. He has also travelled the world as coach for the Ireland schools team. I have my coaching qualifications but get very little opportunity to use them.

You couldn't move in our house for swimming videos and books. If Lisa needs any guidance and advice as regards coaching then tell her to look no further than DR. Ernest W Maglischo books such as Swim Fastest they were like me fathers bible.

He has on a few occasions tried to get me into the masters but I seem to all of a sudden develop selective hearing ;D. It's tough going and I'm just not fit enough any more.

You must be so proud of Lisa and her accomplishments...! the swimming definitely gave her a great platform to deal with the beast and life in general.

Lefty...!

Thanks Paul, better late than never!

So Lefty does this mean I can stay at your house when I swim across the English Channel?  Any advice on that?

Lisa

Hey Lisa,

Your more than welcome...! ;)

One problem though, I hope your fit girl, because as soon as you land in England you have just the small matter of the wee Irish sea to swim across. Don't worry though the mermaids and little leprechauns will help you on your final butterfly leg. ;D

Check it out.. It's the ultimate swim test but wee buns compared to a kip 10...!

I've daydreamed on that site several times.  The English Channel is on my bucket list.  I've done several swims that people do before doing the swim that people do BEFORE doing the English Channel...so I am on my way!  I am faster than the average channel swimmer, but thinner so the chilliness is a bigger problem.  Body fat helps with that swim.  In the near future I want to do the Boston Light swim, a 10 mile swim in cold water, which people do in preparation.  I've already done...not just completed but raced..the Chesapeake Bay (4.4 miles) and I'm doing a 5 mile swim but with easier currents this summer too...with a 1 mile swim that night in the ocean.
So I guess my dreams of the channel are somewhere between just dreams and maybe realistic?  Gotta keep my health under control, keep building on those long, cold swims, and get some more funds (having a real job next year helps!) and then I can go!
Lisa
