Talking to mum today she let out one of them sort of family facts that you didn’t know and probably weren’t bothered either way, having said that,
Apparently my uncle and auntie when they first married, to make ends meet used to put matches into matchboxes at home and were paid by the finished case.
Apart from being tedious, it was probably a fire risk (wouldn’t get away with that nowadays)

So I thought “what’s my worst”

Well I can think of the scariest,
In my youth as a lowly apprentice we were summoned to one of many pottery firms.
Now!  I had heard tales of the wild women on the shop floor that ruled without fear, so before we arrived I was a little wary.
We’d been there a couple of hours and in my increasing confidence started to use my old cheek, little did I know the engineer with me had a quiet word with the head of these lovely ladies.
He started to relay to me that one of their favourite tricks was to grab some unfortunate youth, force him into the ware lift, produce a milk bottle, trousers down, manhood in bottle, a few carefully placed strokes, stuck bottle and out of the lift at the next floor.
“Shhhhit that’s not going to happen to me”
And sure to his word a group of amazons waited for me……

Couldn’t find a bottle big enough!!

The hardest, grossest, yuckiest job I ever had was cleaning hotel rooms.  I had to scrub toilets, clean bathrooms, make beds, check under matresses and beds for items and things left behind (use your imagination here)  vacumn etc.  Very discusting job.

For 16 yrs.  I had a housecleaning service.   I made ends meet,  but I could tell you stories that would make your hair curl.   The piggish-ness of some people is NOT to be believed...

In fact every time I remember the time I started one job, and found cockroaches, used condoms,  vomit in the bath-tub,  broken dishware and glass on the floor and  roses on the kitchen table...I start to gag.  I charged that person 3 times what I would normally charge and got it.  The rest of the house was a mess too.

As part of my job at a veterinary hospital, I turned a lot of pets into ashes as I ran the crematorium.  :-/ and of course shoveled a lot of shit. God what fun.... :o

I used to clean REST AREA bathrooms.  You know, the ones on the sides of the highways and in parks?  I was also pregnant at the time with Lily, so a big double ick to that one!  But I did what I had to at the time because who on earth was going to hire a pregnant 19 year old? :-/

I guess I would say motel maid too. Except it was also kind of fun. my grandparents were the managers and lived on the property. I got to stay the summer with them (which meant I got the HELL OUT OF DODGE) and work for $$. We had alot of long-term guests with kids my age and we became friends. There was also the Aussie male swim team that was there for some meet. And did I mention they were Aussie? And GORGEOUS!

Cleaning was gross but it was probably the best summer of my life. I was 16.

When I was 13, my first job (ever) was to eradicate this plant, by hand, from a twenty-acre hay field.  A local farmer paid me the princely sum of 85 cents per hour to accomplish this feat.

The odor of Datura stramonium is frequently described as "pungent", but this does not begin to do justice to the plant's penetrating, malodorous stench.  Cutting, crushing, or merely touching the thing is sufficient to release its rich foulness.  

Imagine, if you will, sweating under the sun, covered from head to foot in stinking sap, cursing the smell, the nasty trumpet-shaped white and pale purple flowers, and the obstinate root system of this particular vegetable.  Needless to say, my 85 cents an hour was grievously earned.  For some reason, it never occurred to me to tell the farmer that I quit.  I often wonder why.

Datura stramonium, by the way, is a powerful hallucinogenic plant.  It contains large amounts of atropine and scopalamine.  I suppose it's possible that some persons of an experimental nature might consume the thing in order to get some sort of high from it--but after a month of warring with Datura stramonium, nothing on earth could have persuaded me to sample it.  I can still smell the stuff in vivid memory.  

Bar none, the worst job I ever had.

In my younger years I thought I would like to be a country vet. Tending to cows, horses, etc. Got a job with one for a summer. First job was to collect semen from prized black angus bull. I got to hold the receptacle while the vet stimulated the bull with an electric probe. Oh my god, you'd think someone turned on a firehose, full blast. I didn't last the summer. Gave up any notion of ever becoming a vet.

I was a groundskeeper at the Brookfield Zoo.  In addition to Manure detail in the summer  :P, I also got to run the Crematorium at the animal hospital.

Animal control ! We had to scrap dead animals up off the HWY!

After reading all this I will never complain about housecleaning work again. And I had my own business and had to clean up after parties every weekend and found their drugs, adult toys and so forth all over the place. I quit when they refused to pay me for the 6 hours it took one day to clean a 2 bedroom flat. It took about an hour to find the bathroom. I will not go into details as there may be squeamish people here and I think vomit would be hard to get out of a keyboard.

I have a crappy outdoorsy job to add.  Not gross though.  Hubby and I wanted to earn some quick extra cash before our road trip to get hitched and see the country.  Can you say road trip, young, and on a shoe string in an OLD truck.  But I digress.  We have a bike week up in NH and they wanted to turn a grassy field into a parking lot for bikes (I'm no good at measurements but it was bigger than a football field) and they wanted it raked free of every stone and twig.  The ppl that hire us were that picky.  When I say twig I mean TWIG!  I had blisters on blisters!  That was the most painful, and seemingly neverending job I've ever had.  And I've worked some other crapply long houred jobs.  But that took the cake.

But alas it was worth it, I married my raking twig picking parter!

May not be the dirtiest but it was deffinately interesting. I used to work for a family friend that is blind. When I first started working for him, he had an english bulldog named Hatti Bell. Sweetest and most amusing creature in the world. Until it came to bath time. As it gets bloody rather cold here in the hills of New York, picture yourself this: me at 13, trying to get a 35(at least) pound english bulldog, in the bath tub. Not fun my friends. She once ate his bottle of head'n'shoulders, resulting in soap bubbles coming out her nose. After that, he got a seeing eye dog; a yellow lab named Daniel. He lived to roll in the yard, which consisted on next to nothing but poop and mud. Hence, he also required regular bathing. Needless to say, I didn't work there to long.

Was a ~ 100 bed nursing home in Port Edwards.  Lets just say that That sometimes the sheets weren't even bleachable to get the .....uhhh...stains out?

I think cleaning up after others has to be the worst job out there.  I only have to clean up after teenagers and that is bad enough for me!

I hear ya Beth!  My 1 year old is cleaner than my 14 year old. :P

I used to clean office buildings and one our buildings was a trucking terminal.  The area where the drivers came in was nasty.

Used to work for a convenience store that had a public bathroom.  Well, we had to clean the mens' bathroom.  Talk about nasty?  Want to know what a urinal looks like when the men keep putting their cigarette butts in it (and then piss on them?)?  Undoubtably, these men didn't know how to aim either (piss was everywhere but the urinal).  There were a couple of times that sh!t was smeared everywhere too.  [smiley=hurl.gif]
