A friend of mine (YES, I actually DO have a friend or two!) sent me this neat trick to retrieve something from the sink drain, without using any tools! I have not tried it, but it looks like it would work.

The only comments that I would make, are to make sure you use a wet/dry vac, as I would think the water caught in the trap would also get sucked up. AND, after you are done, make sure you run water into the sink, to fill that trap again, otherwise the sewer gasses would escape into the room.
