I am still pretty new to the CH world.  I started experiencing cycles about 2yrs ago-at this time of year.  I am starting another cycle, but my headaches are a bit different this time; they're not just happening shortly after I fall asleep-they sometimes happen during the day.  I have noticed that they occur after a particular sweat workout. I have read the posts regarding drinking a gallon of water with sea salt, but I was wondering if there is more information or correlation with the dehydration aspect.  I drink what I think is a sufficient amount of water daily; I carry a canteen with me all day (27 oz) and drink between 3-5.  I have been trying to drink more before a workout, but I don't think I have the "cocktail" down just yet.  I would love any advice or suggestions offered.  Thanks so much in advance.

Many clusterheads have a sensitivity to heat and doing anything to raise a sweat can be a trigger.

Also, the scientific research has often said that some quirk in how we move electrolytes seems to be a big part of the disease - possible our genes for dealing with sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride are not perfect, and/or we overload a system through lifestyle factors.

I am a big fan of magnesium supplements, and I try to keep well hydrated, especially if I think I am going into cycle. Orange juice and bananas are good sources of potassium, and I try to consume these regularly, and melon in season.

i drink ice water. has to be almost freezing could. im guessing that the cold water causes the blood vessels to constrict a little bit. also the workout should suppress an attack. when i relax is when i get hit.

Hey,

I find doin almost anything that raises my temperature can be a trigger, even just walking to or from work (20 min walk) or even a few times sex!

And no matter how much water i drink i find i can still over heat quite easily, i feel its more to do with my breathing.

When this happens i take immediate action, i rub ice cold water all over my body and try and sit in a breeze to cool off quick or when not at home i go to the toilet and sit on the seat lid (usually cold) or take my top off and press my back against a cold wall there is always one in a toilet somewhere, or basically anything that that will send shivers up my back. i have had some funny looks but i find it really helps. Sometimes the cold causes an amplification of the pain if im really suffering but i stick with it because it definately helps the attack end sooner.

Its frustratingly drawn out but when i excercise i do it 5 min on 5 min off.......

Water isn't a cure-all for me, just a part of a multi faceted approach. I've had CH about 31 years. My current regimen is subtsantial water intake all day. I have added a daily magnesium, calcium and vitamin B-2 supplement to my daily diet. I am convinced this has reduced both the frequency and the intensity of my attacks. (All were added at the suggestion of a neuro many many years ago)

Until they do find a cure for this stuff, you're best bet is life style changes that decrease your number and strength of attacks...all discovered through careful trial and error.  Always have your prevents and abortives meds stocked up and be ready to do battle, and make sure to live life to the fullest between hits! ;)
