Title: So then my son brought me two cats.....
Post by BarbaraD on Jun 25th, 2009 at 7:26am
Ya'll know I have three dogs (two of which weigh in the area of approx 80 pounds or so and the other is a Jack Russell Terrorist!). Wellll... Sunday my son brings me two (smallish) kittens to chase mice and snakes away (ok so I needed some barn cats, but ....).

Homer (Big Dog of the farm) is very protective of "babies" so he immediately takes over the role of "protector" of the new arrivals and lets the others know "do not upset the babies" and proceeds to welcome the newcomers. That's when the *&^% hit the fan. The kittens have an attitude and let Homer know that they didn't need or want his protection and to leave them the hell alone! Poor Homer got his feelings hurt.

The cats stayed under the grill most of Sunday, but Monday came out and took over the deck, daring the dogs to get near them. The dogs ignored them totally, so the cats decided to make trouble. I spent the morning on the porch with a flyswatter trying to let the cats know that it was NOT NICE to aggraviate the dogs.

Now the cats are chasing the Jack Russell (Roscoe) and the Pitmation - Orvil - (Pitt Bull and Dalmation mix) across the porch and poor Homer is just watching to make sure the dogs don't turn on the "babies". They've taken OVER!!!

If they're half as vicious with mice and snakes as they are with the dogs we should be mice/snake free in no time flat!

Gotta run now and go out and referee - it's time for the cats to take over the porch..... Gotta go protect my dogs... ;)

Hugs BD :-*

I thought you had a pair of cats before, Barbie.  Anyway, what are you going to name them?

Nice of Homer though.   :)   Combative little imps are they.  Can't wait to hear of the pair combining together on their first inquisitive hunting trophy.  I'm betting on a nice big crunchy bug first.  They may soon wandering out with hunting trips on your feline game preserve once they discover and fix their eyes on movement from the bush.  They'll love it.

Ours used to find wood shrews in no time at all wandering in the woods and lead it out to a clearing where we'd often sit to show us its skill at letting it escape and capture it again.  Shear torture, lots of fun for the cat.  When she was bored with it, well, that's all she wrote for the shrew.  Love their instincts.

Then there's always your dogs to pester, lively things when young.  You have a challenge being the human ruling class now, they may think WTF of anything thinking they're supposedly superior to a cat.    ;)

I hear things are big in Texas.  Hope they learn soon what is suitable wildlife out there to brave.

Sounds fun, Barb.    8-)

I'm a dog lover, too, but don't have one currently.  Am enjoying our "grand-dog" next door (like a grandchild, we take care of her and then hand her back when her parents return!)
