Title: No more 3 hour slammers UPDATE I was wrong
Post by Bob G. on Jun 26th, 2009 at 1:49pm
I got my O2 this morning. I had a CH start up at 12:01 so I put the O2 on and by 12:05 it was gone. I am so happy right now I can't even put it in words.

When you say "put the O2 on," I assume you're using the little green strap on the mask....

Don't. Pull it out or cut it off. Hold it to your mouth and nose and apply just enough pressure to create a seal. First, the strap doesn't provide an airtight seal against your face like what is needed. Second, if you're using it at night, if you were to drift off to sleep as the headache aborts, you could suffocate after your tank runs out.

It's a great feeling to know that you have THE best tool in the CH toolbox, eh?

Actually I don't have a mask ....YET. ;)
I have to use the nose piece for now, but it's better than nothing.
It dries my nose out though so I just put it in my mouth and use it that way.  It's easier to take a sip of water if my mouth gets dry that it would be snorting water. ;D
But I'm planning on getting a mask.

That's the only real way to use a nasal cannula. With 02 therapy the goal is to get pure oxygen, without any room air. So you're doing good using it like that. :D

Good. Thanks ;) I'm amazed at how good the O2 works. When my neuro told me he was going to write me a script for oxygen I looked at him funny. I honestly thought he had fallen off his rocker, but he was right.

Now you'll learn why I gaze at those little green tanks with such love! ;) It's an awesome feeling knowing you have the A-Bomb in your arsenal to kick beasty's butt! Couldn't be happier it's working so well for you!!!

Maybe I spoke too soon. I was up all night with a few REALLY bad CH's. 3 that the O2 got rid of, and 2 that hit 10 and didn't go away for over an hour each. The O2 didn't help.
I am having some real bad pains right now that I would say are stuck at 7 and wont go away. I have a muscle that goes from my collar bone up to my ear that is absolutely killing me.  I'm thinking about going to the ER.
I'm exhausted, aggravated, and disappointed all in one. I'm just glad I have my wife here with me to keep me sane.

Really sorry to hear about your night - I know how bad it can get.

In your place, I wouldn't let anything get in the way of getting a very high flow set up for your O2 tanks - immediately.

Using O2 the way you've started doesn't help me one bit. Once I got up to 25 lpm or higher, my whole world changed. I get angry with myself when I think of enduring so much agony when relief was easily within reach.

The magic happens when you get enough flow rate to hyper-ventilate on pure O2 for a few minutes. I don't think that it can be done at 15-25 lpm. For me, around 40-50+ is required to breathe fast and deep. Demand regulators are expensive, so I use two 25 lpm regulator/tank setup's connected together with a "T".

Welding regulators have a CGA-540 connector - same as medical O2 regulators on large tanks. A welding regulator can supply more than you can breathe.

Small medical tanks use a CGA-870 fittings.  There are adapters that allow you to put a CGA-540 regulator on a CGA-870 tank. I have a spare adapter like the one in the picture. I can mail it to you if you get a welding regulator.

In the mean time, at least get a good mask and regulator that goes to 25 lpm because they are inexpensive and readily available.

i like the mouth piece with the reclaimer bag. its either that or just the strait tube. i cant stand having anything touch my face during an attack.

I should have mentioned that. I too use the mouthpiece for the same reason.  (Not to mention it's easier on the highway)

Ya, and you can let the nose and eye juice flow and fly no problem. :D :D My wife likes the mouthpiece cause it shuts up my whining as well ;) ;)

I am happy as a bug in crap for ya.
Edit: post a picture of your rig and maybe we can help work the bugs out for ya. 02 is almost 100 % effective if used properly.
