Title: whats going on in iran is not news worthy
Post by [joHnny]w_ an_h on Jul 2nd, 2009 at 2:15am
or any thing else that might be going on in the world besides micheal jacksons death. seems that micheal jackson death is more entertaining than whats going on in iran or iraq. whats going on in iran is extremely significant. history is being made in the middle east right now and it has been sidelined to make way for what they are going to do with micheals chimp or the drugs that he took. a brief mention of it from time would be fine but its on 24/7 on every news channel. they spend allot of time and resources to report on non information. if i wanted to know what happened to micheal in detail i'll buy a copy of people magazine.

hes dead. lets move on to some new business.

I know how yuz all feel. Michael's death ceases to attract my attention quickly now which means that the only safe places on the dial are the Golf Channel or TCM.

When there's something cool like MJ's death, everybody selling pills and other dubious but expensive health-related crap jumps for joy. "Breaking News" bits about it are more often but shorter so as to get maxium exposure to reflux remedies. Meanwhile, back to 3 minutes of "reporting" on this loon and his family from hell but first, "we'll take a break," and run 8 commericals while scouring the bottoms of our barrels for more insignificant revelations on this freak.

Stuff like Iran and Korea are uncomfortable.  People don't want to delve into specifics as much and won't stick around. It's not good for sales. Back to the stuff that makes us glad that we're only observing something awful but safe in that we're not a part of the story.

"Breaking news" means that it's truly broken, I guess.

I'm conflicted as to which of the new Michael Jackson cable networks I should subscribe to - they all sound good, but I only have so much money.  I think I will subscribe to two, and move a TV from the spare room into the living room so I can watch both at the same time.  Probably should buy another TV to go in the bedroom.  The 'news' networks can only go Jacko-24/7 for so long ... even last night, I caught one wandering away to present a few minutes of non-Michael fluff.

On the positive side, CNN just did a great interview of Bubbles the chimp:

I'm sure glad to know that I'm not alone....

I've been watching a lot GSN and Lifetime during the last week. Every flipping network channel is MJ...

Here's a nut that turned his face from a handsome young man to a nightmarish freak; named his son blanket and walks his children around Disneyland in Paris with flipping   Halloween Costume masks on  their faces. If nothing else, maybe it's not too late for those three innocent children to have a normal life.

It was a nickname, but still pretty stupid.

The kid's real name was very similar to the first kid's name (Prince Michael or some such). They did it to differentiate between the two.

I'm thinking, what's wrong with Bobby, or Jimmy, or Davey....

[size=12]Reminds me of George Carlin. He said how come no one is named Eddie or Joe today?

On that; I just saw someone named Barack actually waste the country's time by commenting on this stupid story. Bleaugh.  :o

It all depends on what you like.  Right now I'm going through a Fantasy/Sci-Fi phase;

Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth
Stephen Erikson - The Malazan Book of the Fallen
Elizabeth Haydon - Symphony of Ages
Mercedes Lackey/James Mallory - Obsidian Trilogy
George RR Martin - A Game of Thrones series
Guy Gavriel Kay - The Fionavar Tapestries
Roger Zelazny - The Amber chronicles
Neil Gaiman - American Gods
I've also been reading Raymond Feist since his first book Magician, it's a very long list of the books he's done, each set done in a trilogy that builds on the previous stories, if you read Feist it's best to start with Magician and read through at least that first trilogy.

Everyone of the above, except Gaiman, are full series - most of them have upwards of 6 books, some have 9 and 10 to each series.

The frustration comes when you get through all the books in the series and have to wait for the author to release the next book - I've been doing that with Feist for about 8 years now hehe.

In other areas, I have been re-reading all my Cat Who books by Lilian Jackson Braun

And another one that I loved was Marion Zimmer Bradley and The Mists of Avalon, Firebrand, and the Trillium series.

Hope that helps!

Cat

MSNBC got to the monkey first....CNN lost out being first on scene with this one. Past the report that Jackson had died, the fact the monkey is still living has been the only news to me. I figured it had succumbed long ago.....from what I'd rather not say.

On a related note, CNN should have worded the screen shot above a little differently. When I first saw it I though it was a spoof......an offensive one at that.

OMG, no disrepect to anyone, but Beull that strucky my funny bone!!!

I agree with all, MJ's death, while young, is not news. You can see all you want  about in on the E! like channels. For me, I've been reading, just finished Twilight series, and watching Wimbleton and baseball.
