Title: Old age is sneaking up on us
Post by cavalier on Jul 5th, 2009 at 9:18pm
I always thought of myself as this young and trendy go getter.
As I sit typing this with arthritic gnarled digits in my size 10 incontinence pants and string vest even though my skin has turned blue with the cold.
Where did my youth go??
The last time my loins were lusty I recall was to the Sound of Music
Julieeeee (Maybe it was the uniforms made from curtains that did it)

Waking in the morning and been led blearily eyed to the loo by the appendices of somewhat stiff proportions.
Standing painfully erect trying to relieve the previous night’s excess of binge drinking
That moment of relief (sighhh) the sound and smell that met your senses.

I never thought that I would be looking to see whether the Levi’s fit my bum.
I’ve started not wearing socks with my trainers and breathing in when shopping. That’s ok if nipping in for some milk but a big shop!
Started moaning about politics and celebrities,

You know you’re getting old when the immortal words come out…
I remember when…

Getting out the black and white snaps and pointing out the embarrassing hair do

Why do older women show their underwear at party’s and men try to do the John Travolta
I can’t even do the twist.
Always been a wallflower me.

I know, Colin. I haven't gotten out of my chair in 25 years without significant sound effects.....mostly oral so far. When I head for my terlet as Archie Bunker calls it, I know I can look out the window for several minutes until anything worthwhile begins. I think God left it up to the government for completion of this part of the anatomy. Only a government would run a waste disposal system through an amusement park.

I know that I'm headed for the last roundup because when I read the newspaper's daily column about things that happened 50 years ago, I nod my head...oh yeah, I knew him the day fell in the lake and bit the dust. Scary stuff.

We had my wife's sister and her husband over at the house for a part of the holiday weekend. They were blessed late in their lives with a beautiful little girl who is now seven years old. The kid is brilliant beyond her years and has an indescribable head of curly red hair.

She had a little electronic drawing toy and she and I made up games.
One of the games we played was to combine animals with other things...you know like drawing a frying pan and putting a cat head on it, legs and letting the handle act as the tail...Panther...?  Get it?

We would have to guess what the other drew and we ended up laughing so much that we had to show the kitchen dwellers (adults) what was making us laugh. Sometimes doing that made us laugh some more.

I don't know why I'm going on about this. I think it stays on topic.

I just know that it allows me to momentarily forget, and perhaps even stall, the inevitability of getting older.

Hang in there kids.

Here's one Cavalier:

You know you're getting old when you replace the condoms in your wallet with BAND AIDS !!!  ;D

I have a hard time admitting that I am getting older. Modern people do a lot more after middle age than people of past times. I mean, you don't look like an old guy tryin' to look young if you still play sports, skydive, etc.

When I was a kid, after 40 you were supposed to act a certain way. I don't think those old assumptions are anyone's standard anymore.

My Mom is 76 and she gets around just fine. She would go with me to watch a band if I asked her to. She doesn't sit in a rocking chair and waste away !!!
There are still certain ways a middle-aged person should behave, but feeling younger and doing any activity you want is my way of doing things.

If you have good health, enjoy it while you can.
Cheers, Dave

Maybe when I grow up, I will feel old ... Until then, I am just a 59 year old kid!

(Had to go to the bigger print for all you old farts to be able to read)

There is a valid reason for people like me & Chuck.

Growing old is mandatory.

Growing up is optional.

Well, there are two choices, get older or get dead.  Think I'll opt for the first one!

I did think for a while Dave that band aids would help,
They used to work on the grazed knee.
and i must admit Chuck I prefer the bigger size myself especially the double cup
