Wow, hopefully the MA citizens will rally together to financially support their zoological society.

Find those animals some new homes. Any zoo managment threatening to kill them to extort more tax money does not deserve them in the first place.

But the public does. Trigger finger response from the zoo boss. |

I guess a new zoo boss would constitute a new home... |

Its a nice place. Animals are well cared for. Zoo boss was pissed at the Gov.
As he should be. The Prarie Dog collection has a higher collective IQ than our Gov. |

I think you're way off base here. From what I read (different articles), some of those animals would not be able to be placed. If you look at the numbers, the zoo is taking apprx. a 61% cut to their budget. Could you survive a 61% cut to your household budget? |

Should I threaten to kill the inhabitants of my household to make somebody give me more money? |

LMAO That's one way to put it ;D I know they are "trying" to find the animals new homes, but that's a big task. |

Like I told Don, I think a new zoo boss would constitute a new home for the animals. Kind of like taking an abusive head of household out of a home - the kids have a new lease on life.

I totally agree Brew. It would be a shame if they did kill them, but at the same time what are the options IF they can't relocate them?

Taxpayers aren't the only source of funding.

It is a faulty analogy, IMO. Animals are chattel, property. The law prohibits certain behavior (ie, sadistic torture of animals). But those laws even apply to animals which we kill and eat.
If a zoo goes broke, it is no different than if Joe the llama farmer goes broke. If Joe can't sell or adopt out the animals ... |

The only question I would have is what happens to the "endangered" animals. I work with animals to a degree, and I have to keep up with certain laws concerning them, but these are captive raised and not wild so I don't know if there are any laws protecting them.
The goats, horses, any farm animals could be legally destroyed but the rest I'm not sure about. I know for a fact none of the animals can be sold for sport hunting purposes. |

Yes, I agree that an endangered species should be considered differently ... call me a 'Noah Nut' but I think there is value in preventing a species from going extinct.
On the other hand, a gazelle or zebra is not so different from a cow or deer. |

One can have a BBQ on any day of any given month for any reason. I doubt other countries place cook outs on the fourth day of July on a "do not do" list . I certainly don't cross out the patriotic holidays of other countries off my available days for a party. |
