Title: 02 question Post by Shaka on Jul 13th, 2009 at 8:07am
yesterday i felt one hit coming and i went to o2 immediately,5 minutes there and k,then after 1 hour the hit came again ,more 5minutes of o2 and fine, then it came again past 1 hour and i didnt even went to the o2,i decided to take it,it only took 30m and not at full force(maybe cause i didnt stressed out, when im alone i can deal with hits better than when im surrounded by people even family)so my question is DiD the hits keep coming back cause of only being 5 minutes in o2????
Do i need to stay longer in o2??? (Also i dont have and clustermask,i used the one provided, but i put my finger in the holes when inspiring...) |

I always stay on the O2 for a full five minutes beyond the point where I feel any pain.
Sometimes I'm back on it in an hour, but mostly not. It's usually at least a couple of hours between them. Usually. |

I'm new to O2, but I do the same as Brew (lol boy did that rhyme or what). I stay on the O2 at least 5 minutes after an attack. If I don't the shadows seem worse and the CH will come back and I'm back on the O2 anyways.
Good luck. |

O2 therapy tends to have a cumulative effect for many of us. In other words, the problem you describe reduces over time. Keep using it to kill each hit, and the time between hits can increase more and more.
This works particularly well with very high flow oxygen - enough to actually hyper-ventilate for a few minutes at a time. As Brew said, keep breathing the O2 for an extra few minutes (at a more relaxed rate) after the pain is gone. Good luck, Marc |

Have you seen any improvement by staying on the O2 a little longer?

Then there's the small minority....me included.......that get the return hits 20 minutes after the 02 shuts off. I now take 1 oral cafergot when I start the 02. 02 beats it down, cafergot buys me up to 12 hours pain free time.

Can't argue with success, Joe - and you've been at this a long time!
You're using a demand valve from memory? Marc |

You should get a regulator that will go to at least 15 lpm. Also get the O2ptimask. Much better seal, and the reservoir is bigger (3 liters). |

ye it improved the time beetween hits by staying in o2 longer, last hit was avoided by using only 8lpm and i reduced to 2lpm after pain was gone and stayed there for more 5-10 min. a total of 15m.
It was only the second time using o2... |

You might want to consider bringing that lower number up from 2 lpm (say, 6-8). With a non-rebreathing system, you could just about suffocate at that rate.
Glad it's working for you, though. |
