:( No matter what anybody says, I still think it's selfish to have children that late in life. MY personal opinion. (YES I'm being judgemental!)

Selfish is the first thing that came to my mind too.

As much as I dearly love my kids and grandkids - I'm darned sure that I wouldn't want to be chasing a toddler around 24/7 at my age. I wonder what on earth these women are thinking when they decide to have babies that late in life.

This woman felt that she was entitled to a child, period. It didn't matter that she had to take hormones to rejuvenate her uterus because she was 18 years into menopause (natures way of saying she was too fucking old), she wanted a baby and lied to the Dr's to get what she wanted. It was all about her.
Now there are two babies with no mother or father, and a family that it sounds like, have no clue who is going to be responsible raising them. |

Mothers of all ages can die. My sister in law adopted twins after the twins' mom dropped of a heart attack at 30.
The risk goes up with age, but if the average lifespan is 78, then dying at 62 must have been a bit unexpected, no? And what else should be said about women that choose to have babies in their later years? The risk of down's syndrome is much higher. If we are to be judgmental, should we not say something about a woman in her 40s that already has four kids, and then accidentally gets pregnant? Isn't that extremely irresponsible? |

monty I've heard that same spiel before and it still doesn't change my mind.
66 years old and purposely getting pregnant? There is something to be said for women's bodies only being of child bearing age for so long. Constantly defying nature is going to come back and bite humanity in the ass, that I'm sure of. But then again, I am but a lowly right brainer so what do I know. ::) |

Irresponsible on whos' part? There are only two ways to absolutely prevent pregancy, (1) NEVER HAVE SEX and (2) remove all the child bearing organs. Now lets examine those two options: (1) never having sex again is one that I'm sure the partner would really support. (2)Complete hysterectomy~major surgery and has lots of not so good consequences. |

You work hard to present facts to support your position, and I appreciate some of the info you have presented. BUT, sometimes I think that you merely like to be contrary - just for the sake of creating an argument. Take this example: Is your point that there should be legislation to preclude pregnancy on the slopes of the bell curve? Are you simply pointing out that we should have the freedom to choose? Judging people and events around us is good - that's what we do as humans in order to make decisions everyday. From voting, guiding our children and whom we associate with - we judge every day. THAT is what opinions are made of. Respectfully, Marc |

Maybe one of those kids is our next President or finds the cure for cancer or AIDS. I'm bettin they are glad they were born. You folks just don't think quite straight all the time.

I don't think there is a simple answer, and would rather ask difficult questions that try to get to the principle of the matter. I don't think that either more laws or championing individual freedom are inherently good answers to such situations. If a person has kids depending on them, how much risk should they take in terms of swimming with sharks, using a cell phone when driving, riding motorcycles, or smoking cigarettes? I don't know!! Of all of those situations, driving while using a cell phone seems to be the one that might be addressed by regulations, but not because of kids - driving while distracted immediately puts others on the road at risk. Judging others (taboos, shunning, social censure, etc) can have positive effects in discouraging some behaviors. Sometimes. But I'm not sure that is any more enlightened than government action ... people like to gossip, people like to make snap decisions. |

My gorgeous little twins would not be living (or have been conceived) if we hadn't spent a great deal of time and money 'fooling mother nature'.
If this old woman wanted babies, she was going to do whatever it took to have them. Age difference aside, I know exactly what a woman like that is like! :) All I can say is I hope those kids are taken care of now. I can't judge her for it. Some people are clearly slaves to their desires, and she was no exception. There's a LOT of that going around in all of our lives... |
