Title: Oxygen Overdose...
Post by Joeytastic on Jul 30th, 2009 at 9:52am
Ok... so I just got off the phone from OUCH and feel really silly...

Seems that my constant background headache maybe from overdoing it with the Oxygen. I had it on tap while I was on hosiptal and often fell asleep with it on my face and since I have been home I have been through a lot of bottle....

Seems my old friend Oxygen has given me a bit of a headache.... [smiley=bag.gif]

That sounds silly.

You can start to damage your lungs if you've been on 100% oxygen for 20 hours or more (and I'm talking non-rebreather and not mixed with room air).

But oxygen causing headaches? Seems somebody might be blowing smoke up your skirt.

I dunno. I've had a few KIP 10s and had come a bit psychologically dependant on the stuff. I've put the mask down and I feel much much better, touch wood :)

Its often suggested here that you cut the strap off the mask.

Personally, the $28 I paid for the Optimask this site sells was the best money I've ever spent on CH stuff. I only use the mouthpiece that comes with it, but the mask is worlds better than the disposable ones you always get.

Never heard of oversdosing on O2. Were you using it as a preventative or correctly as an abortive?

It's not unusual to have "backgound pain" or shadows as we call them. This is normal CH. Forgive me but it is unheard of that O2 will cause that.

Best of Luck,  Don

CUT THE STRAPS OFF!!!

We mention this now and then but it bears repeating. With a non re breather mask, with the strap wrapped around your noggin, if you fall asleep, and the 02 runs dry, you risk death by suffocation. We recommend cutting the strap off and holding it against your face. That way if you do fall asleep the mask falls away.
