Title: URGENT: Injection Sumatriptan (Imigran Subject) Post by Joeytastic on Jul 31st, 2009 at 5:55am
I am quite new to this abortive meds (I used to take the nasal spray form) but although it kills the beast in about 10 seconds (I only use it when oxygen won't budge it) some of the side effects scare me a bit. I just want to talk them over with you guys to see if you share them...
I get my bf to stab me woith the needle and I count to ten... by 9 the beast has gone.... but 10 I feel very sick. And then I by a few mins I feel this horrid sensation.... like my body is made of lead.... every part of me feel so heavy and thick and wolly... and as I was falling asleep (it's all I can do because I can sorta feel myself passing out...) I pinch myself as hard as I could and I swear to you I couldn't feel it... and I sorta feel all dreamy... unless I move a muscle and I wanna throw up.... It this normal? It's a couple of hours later and I am KIP 1 with no shadows but I am scared I am having some sort of usual reaction and that I am going to have a heart attack in my sleep :-/ Thanks J X |

P.S
Nasal form never made me feel like this, just a little dopey... but I could even drive on it... nothing in the rhelm of this! Nasal was 20mg and injection is 6mg. |

The side affect of complete exhaustion may not be due to just the shot, it is known to happen sometimes after a high hit CH attack.
If the injection is making you feel numb all over then you may want to discontinue and talk to your doc. I have not experienced nor heard of this reaction from Imitrex injection, but everyone is different. :) |

Feel quite dopey after the injections. I usually take out the injection from the pod and only use half (as thats all I need to abort most attacks) and get 4 doses. Unfortunately, my cycle is going mad and for the last 3 days had 8, 10, 10 attacks consecutively all with no let up of shadows in between. I wussed out a bit and od'd on the injections. I ended up using 5 and a half in 24 hrs.....to be honest I felt dopey and felt sick but no other bad side efffects at all. Reckon as I was injecting only 3mg at a time I didn't od properly.
so basically, id check with the doctor as it shouldnt make you feel more buzzed than the nasal...I think it should only work quicker (from 3 mins to 15). Maybe you injected in a bad area and hit a blood capillary or something.... hope that helps. ;) |

Hello:
No side effects for me with Trex injections. Only fast relief. But, just like Jarris, I sometimes go a little overboard with Trex (but not often)when I am getting hit too often. When this happens, I do feel dopey and like my heart is beating a little fast. It is still much better than going through a kip 9... You may want to try the Imitrex tip (see left menu) and cut the doses in two. It worked fine for me. A little more work but a lot of benefits. Best of luck! miCHel |

Try and decrease the dose (a third usually is enough).
See the Imitrex tip on the left. If that doesn't work you can also carefully pull the "vial" out of the box and then use a q-tip or something similar to manually inject the desired dose. |

DIY medicine doesn't sit easy with me but hell, I think I am going to try and give this a go. I was so bad earlier I even found myself looking at an an illegal drug website. :-[ I'm shocked what CH have turned me into. I even swore at a nurse the over day :-[
I am only 5'2 and 9st (a lil thing) and I'm guessing this is the same dose they give to a stocky male so it's little ownder it knocks me for six. I just rang the doc to ask him to write me a script from some more (the first two kits came from the hospital). He's given me 10 refills but not with a long lecture about how they cost the health service £40 per injection. I have worked full time and payed my taxes since I was 16 years old (26 now) and asked for very little in return, the least they can do is help me out when I am feeling suicidal with pain. ~rant over~ |

Are you on any other medications that could be interacting with the trex?
There are some that you can't take with them, like SSRI's, and some others. (Together they can cause serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal.) |

do you guys not get the vials and syringes seperately?? You should look into it, makes it alot easier to adjust your dose. They come in packs of 5 0.5ml vials. then just grab a box of 100 insulin syringes!

No seems it doesn't work like that in the UK. Impossible to get needles unless you are a junkie due to "safe needle schemes"
