Monty,
I am glad that you "really don't feel" that the White House staffers are looking at people who disagree. I haven't made up my mind yet because I don't have enough facts. It's great that you do! As for your list, I've never heard of most of those, with the notable exception of the birth certificate thing. If you are going to use some extreme examples of people who are "out there" turn that around and provide equal coverage for: The folks swearing that they saw Bush and Cheney out in a rowboat blowing the dikes in New Orleans because they hate African Americans. How GWB planted explosives under the trade towers so that he could start a war. I could make the list A LOT longer, but my point is that reasonable people like you and me don't tend to think like that - I hope. What's the value in presenting the "out there" examples.? Again, I wonder if you are attempting to connect all conservatives to crazy radicals. I would suggest that it's important to remember that by FAR, most of us are not deranged. We have beliefs and we follow them. I would assume that you do also and that you aren't some minion of the evil forces. Sure, we could get into pissing contest over who has the most weirdo's - but that is a tactic used by desperate people who are losing a logical discussion. Respectfully, Marc |

had those of you who picked apart Glen Beck and went on a rant about fanatics - had you READ the book, you'd have understood the intent of the post. We need to STOP the pissing contests and get involved. We all have thoughts, ideas, opinions, and SOME of us have brains- unfortunately, we (disclaimer: I am not allowed to generalize we as "all" because some with their own personal issues won't allow me to imply that I refer to everyone) where was I? oh yes, GENERALLY we have lost our voice, lost our interest and settled into apathy. You don't like the way things are? SPEAK UP You don't like what the current administration is doing? SPEAK UP. You don't like the corruption, whether Rep or Dem? SPEAK UP. If you truly believe in what you profess..........SPEAK UP. But do it constructively, NOT by pissing matches about what amounts to diversions and dividing us as a nation. |

Marc,
the number of people that believe that 9/11 was a US government plot is relatively small, and those people are on the fringes of both the left and right. I think it is fair to say that that idea has not gotten very much support from the left or right. One notable 9/11 denier is Gerome Corsi, who is a leader of the birthers ... The birther conspiracy, unlike the others you mentioned, does have widespread support among Republicans. And it makes sense - if you can create the impression that Obama is an illegal usurper, then the rules can be thrown out. Taxes don't need to be paid, soldiers don't have to follow orders, violent resistance becomes legitimate. Yesterday, Sarah Palin invoked the imagery of her child or parents being called up in front of Obama's "death panel" - her comments (and the Republican response to them) are telling. Do you think is possible for the Democratic majority to have reasonable discussions and work towards compromise with a movement that is clearly opposed to any such compromise? A movement that is intent on portraying the other side as evil killers? Jennifer wrote on Aug 7th, 2009 at 9:23pm:
You have to do some convincing to do ... from what I have seen of his TV show, Glenn Beck is all about being snarky, about strange, unsubstantiated conspiracies, and routinely "pissing on others." |

you missed the point again dear, its not ABOUT glen beck. Narrow-minded and blind political loyalties are what have gotten us into the mess this country is in. And yet here "we" are, on a message board, picking apart posts because of the name of a writer of a book or comments made by some failed politician. We should all be working together to get people of character IN office who are looking out for our best interests, not criminals and thieves who only look out for their own greedy agendas. Instead, what do we do? We bicker about stupid shit that countless self-important bloggers INTENDED to say, or the crap some tv station aired. WHO THE FUCK CARES??? I guess its too much for people these days, to do more than bitch and blame and then walk away and cry because they don't like the result. Kudos to a couple of our senior ladies, who have helped open my eyes to my own apathy. You have my respect. |

You do know there are others to vote for besides Rep or Dem right? I mean so often I hear people complain that they have to chose between the lesser of two evils. Just because the other candidates are written off not talked about and do not have commercials on TV does not mean they do not exist. Read, research, use your head (its the lump located 3ft above your a**) We have more choices it is time we started choosing them.

It's just plain old "pay back", Monty. Paybacks are hell.
NO, I'm not here to defend a joke about murder. BUT, as a conservative I can tell you first hand how sick and tired I am of being accused of being what I am not. Many, many ordinary people feel the same way. They have seen the loud & extreme left actually gain ground using this tactic, while most liberals just let it slide without condemnation. For the first time in memorable history, we are actually poking back with the same sharp stick. That is causing tremendous angst those who don't understand the reason that it is occurring. I would prefer a more staid approach, but people are angry after "taking it" for so long. Marc |

You are helping to motivate folks with that kind of comment. That's the kind of thoughtful consideration our opinions get from the left. I appreciate it the help. Marc |

Then I must join Charlie. Are we now playing the game, *tit for tat*? Glen Beck and his cohorts (Limbaugh, Hannity, et al) call themselves *conservatives*, rabble rousers might be a better term. |
Title: Re: Glen Beck "Common Sense" Post by Marc on Aug 11th, 2009 at 8:51am
Please note that I was simply offering an observation, not engaging in outlandish rhetoric. In fact, I clearly said that I would prefer a different approach.
The point being missed is an understanding of "why" many people are reacting the way they are. Democrat party leaders refusing to see the reality of the mood of the people are simply fueling the frustration by telling those people that they aren't real. It's clearly becoming a vicious circle and they don't even see it. |

No I didn't. You are trying to say with a straight face that it's the right that has been the victim of left wing rabble rousers all these years and that they are finally hitting back. That's a 180 from the truth and you know it. Charlie |

Reading a book makes the reader one who agrees completely with the ideologies of the writer? No. Its simple Monty. Let me explain myself yet again in terms you might understand: I stated "read it" because to me - LOOKING PAST GLEN BECK'S TAKE ON THE WORLD - it outlined some basic truths NOT ABOUT DEMS OR REPS OR LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE BULLSHIT - but about looking at the cause/effect of our own narrow mindedness and our own lethargy. As usual, we still are still pointing fingers and bitching about who done what to whom. And those assholes in power are laughing their heads off at the blind masses, and happily lining their pockets at our expense. I think if we read the posts on this thread, we get quite a few examples. No diss to you Monty. I said read it because I really truly think that there are some hard truths in there - Glen Beck fan or foe - there ARE some hard truths in there, and things that ALL of us should be thinking about, and then acting upon, based on our own personal convictions. But its those convictions and NOT what each side of the political arena shouts the loudest that should make the decisions. THAT is my point. So have at it with the Glen Beck attacks or left said/right said nonsense. I won't try to explain again. |
