Title: Catching Up & Falling Behind
Post by Carl D on Aug 4th, 2009 at 5:32am
Since the convention, I have been running ragged non-stop. I hated I couldn't stay longer on Saturday night, and there were alot of folks I didn't get to say goodbye to, but had to get back home to start work on the show which, I was 3 days behind on.

As soon as I can (might be a couple of weeks) I'll have my pics from the convention up. I know, lame eh? What is even more lame is... I haven't even had time to do the vacation pics. Instead, I got swamped with a few other things.

For those of you who were at convention and got a copy the disc with "I Wake Up Screaming" (a song about clusters), I'll be putting the lyrics up in a day or so. Anyone else who wants to hear this song can go to START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE and check it out.
I found out that weekend that Eddie Fleiss of Lefty She Swills is in partnership with another artist who decided to put together a benefit CD for breast cancer research & treatment. He asked me to do an acoustic version of "I Wake Up Screaming" and I'm like 'how in the fuck am I gonna acoustify something that angry & cathartic?' However, I have a bad habit: I have a hard time saying no when it is for a good cause, and so I agreed to do it. So far, all songs have been submitted but one.
Guess who's holding up traffic?  :(
So, tomorrow I have to finish a guitar track for another song so I can change strings on my Jackson and get it retuned. Then, I have to start the acoustic version of this song and have it done in the next 3 days.

To add to the pressure, State of Mind Productions is doing a 'documentary' on the 'zombie outbreaks' called "Zombie Epidemic" and I was recommended by someone else to do the soundtrack (something I have been thinking about doing for awhile now since I'm pushing 40 and don't look to make it as a teen dream idol anytime soon) and so behind the scenes will be fine for me, as long as I am doing music. Well, I took on the project and after getting some footage of the movie, have already started on the Main Title and also the End Credits music.
A zombie movie is right up my alley so I told the guy, "If you need any extras for a bit part, let me know." With that, he asked if I had any acting experience and I told him just the comedy improv troupe, and also the audition for the Purple Room which I got a part in - but the funding never went through for the film. So, he gave me the script and offered me the part of Dr Herald Brockhouse, a scientist who is working on 'domesticating zombies' and learning what makes them tick. I read the part and jumped at it immediately! Since the script has been revised twice, he told me if I wanted to add anything to the script for my part I'm more than welcome. W00T!!!

So, we are shooting my scenes August 13th, and I should have a good chunk of the soundtrack done by then. However right now I have a couple of deadlines to make and.... just when everything is going great - got a used Yamaha keyboard cheap that is really decent and will be a great addition to the Korg synth, I also got my B.C Rich Warlock (which I've wanted one since I was a teen and got one at a pawn shop for obscenely cheap) and, after a great radio show Sunday night, and Monday going great and productive... Tonight I get on my communications machine (puter 2) to do some photo work, and the machine is off. After working with it for 2 1/2 hours, I realized the hard drive is FRIED!!! So, that is a MAJOR setback, as I have got used to being able to get alot more work done having both machines running at once, and that machine is what I run my messengers, webpages and Skype on during the radio show. It's dead Jim. It's dead!

So, been mega busy, spent 3 days down last week with back spasms that almost put me back in the hospital. Dealing with some other issues with the leg & back that are steadily getting worse and won't bore you with the details. HOWEVER, I have had maybe 5 clusters since the convention. I have a theory as to why, but will hold my tongue until I do more 'research'. After all, don't wanna jump the gun like I've done in the past.

Again, I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye to so many of you Saturday night... I would have rather stayed there til 4am hanging out with the peeps, but had to be responsible and get home to put bulletins out, and start a playlist for the show. I'm also sorry I haven't been on here much since the convention (logged in twice with the intention of posting, and wound up distracted by something - one day it was a neighbor needing some help with his computer.

Ya know what is funny? I used to have waaaaaaaaay too much time on my hands and I would dwell on past losses, and all the negative shit keeping me down. Now, it's reversed: I have so much to do with so little time and there is only one of me. Like I said sunday on my show.... (remember, Soylent Radio is meant to be over the top and Mack Danger is a character, a major exagerration of myself)
I said on the air: "I really need an intern who can do all of the hunting and gathering of new music and filling in the gaps of what I don't have in past music through the week, and to help run the 2nd machine (which is now fried). We need someone who can multi-task, and must be able to fail a drug test. Also, you must have at least one criminal conviction, as long as it isn't theft, molestation or getting busted smoking crack listening to Liza Minelli! Must be willing to work for the same amount of money I make each week doing Soylent Radio - none.

I'm hoping good things come from scoring this movie soundtrack, as I have already been contacted by 2 other production companies and, if this snowballs.... who knows? I could be the next Danny Elfman. I wouldn't mind doing movie soundtracks and working behind the scenes, as longas it PAYS!  Right now I have many jobs that don't pay but have the 'potential' to pay. Like I told my buddy Jeff, "The 'potential' isn't putting any food on my table at the moment so it's famine. However, if this takes off.... a feast may be in the future.

Here's an odd thing: I got a fortune cookie 3 weeks ago saying "An unexpected artistic opportunity is just around the corner."
Fortune cookies rule!!!
Will try to check in more often and not be a stranger - even if I have to do it at 4:30am in the morning.  ;)

Peace & love you guys bunches,
Carl D

PS - Any clusterbusters out there know anything about Absinthe and Grande Wormwood with high Thujone content?
