Don't know yet.

Amended to read: Leftover Hunan Shrimp. Perhaps even better the second time around.

Can you give a comparison of what Whale steak tastes like?  Salmon?  Cod?  Beef?  Do you know what kind of whale it comes from?

Curious!

Well, after spending the day cleaning the garage - it should have just been condemmed - I'm thinking having a pizza delivered!

I'm too pooped.

BUT!  In cleaning the garage, we found two boxes that my mother had kept pictures, newspaper clippings of my dad's baseball career, some of my report cards (not too bad if I say so myself), and one love letter from dad to mom. WHEW!  HOT STUFF!  He wrote her from Cleveland, when he was playing with the St. Louis Browns, telling her when he would be home and where to meet him.  Then......he expounded, quite graphically, what he was going to do with her when he got there.    You GO, Daddy!!!!! ::)

I'm going to scan it in and e-mail it to my daughters.

Sandy

If you’re thinking of eating whale, you might want to think again – the blubber of dead whales in some areas is so highly contaminated with organochlorines such as PCBs and pesticides that it would be classified as toxic waste!

Organochlorines are known to damage development of children and affect reproduction.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think whale steaks aren't blubber - they're muscle. I don't know if the muscle would be as contaminated as the fat.

I'm sorry Svenn, with so few of the species left, and still declining, I have reservations regarding whale being harvested. Its my own hang up, sorry.

For the record, I fish every chance I get, and I eat what I catch, I also eat meat, chicken, and just about anything else.

Being on the water as much as possible, and being out there as much as I do, seeing a whale is more or less a cool thing to me. Its a cool species, and I just think they need to be protected until they're back to thier full stats.

Like I said, its my own hang up.

you make a good point shawn. you've proved that you  can oppose eating whale without being one of those judgmental PETA freaks.

While Chuck and I were visiting Svenn and Bente...  Whale steak was lovingly prepared by Bente... It was DELICIOUS!

It took me by surprise though as it had more of  a Beef taste and texture.

Yummy!!!

with warm regards,
Tony

Wow, you guys can actually eat whale?  I dont think we can, here in the USA, unless you are a Native American.....and even then you gotta pay for permission.

Even though they live in the sea, they are still mammals - I guess the beef taste and texture makes sense.

It does NOT taste like chicken!  LOL!

It has its own unique taste.  It has the consistency and feel of steak.  The taste is closest to the taste of good reindeer.  Reindeer that does NOT have the gaminess of some of them.  But it really is a unique flavor.  It definitely does NOT taste anything like any sort of fish.

It IS extremely good, though, I have to say!  Now, I can't say if all whale steaks taste that way, or if it is just the outstanding cooking abilities that Bente possesses, which she has proven many times over.

I have eaten it twice, and both times, was at Svenn and Bente's house, and Bente cooked it.  Svenn did NOT cook it, as Svenn has trouble boiling water without burning it.  Svenn's concept of cooking is: "Bente, I am hungry ... Fix me something ..."

Chuck, who CAN cook ...
