Title: They just don't make 'um... Post by Redd on Aug 9th, 2009 at 1:56pm
... like they used to...
Another coffee maker has bitten the dust this morning. Really bad timing too, as my date didn't end till about 3:30 this morning...<insert big yawn here> Turned it on...the little light was glowing green but yet...nothing happened. Heater plate was cold, no bubbly hot water dripping down into the coffee grounds. So I'm off to Wally World to buy a new one...again. Should I take this as a sign that I drink too much coffee? :-/ Nahhhhh gotta be the workmanship...yeah that's it... ;D |

Out of my budget, but I did find a Mr. Coffee for $17 and change. |

99 bucks for the Bunn. Coffee in ninety seconds. I've had mine for twelve years, that's 8 bucks a year. Potter |

Count me in. I make coffee so thick you need to eat it with a fork. Svenn probably beats me.....It's a Scandinavian thing. After we are long gone and aliens come to visit, they will find 200,000,000 discarded old coffee makers. Strange things actually. All we had were Pyrex percolators and of course a fancy one for parties. The good old days of coffee grounds in your cup. My coffee makers last until I break the pots. Charlie |

I have an old Pyrex Coffee Press that I paid $7.95 for, about 10 or 12 years ago. Not much can go wrong with the thing, only one moving part. Just put your coffee in, add water, push on the handle and pour out your coffee. So simple, even a Crab Fisherman can do it. I also have a Bordum Santos vacuum coffee pot. For those days when I want coffee like my Mother made when I was a kid. But waiting for the water to turn to steam and move from one globe to another tests my patience first thing in the morning.

Coffee makers with auto-timers are, perhaps, the second best invention of the 20th century - just behind the freon compressor. I like the coffee from a coffee press, but the clean-up sux. |

Santa bought Jesse a more upscale GE coffeemaker last year. It's programmable, fast, no drip carafe (THIS was always a problem) with pause and serve and only cost about $30-$40. He LOVES it!
BTW, I am so glad I am not accidentally putting the newspaper or other things into the big puddles on the counter from the old one. :P |

I just toss the coffee grounds in the trash and give the pot a quick rinse under the faucet. Probably about as much trouble as messing with coffee filters and rinsing out the carafe. I could join the 21st century and get an electric vacuum coffee maker with a timer. If either the coffee press or the vacuum pot need more attention than that, I can always cheat and have the housekeeper do it. The MSO may have beached my ass, but I still have a few perks left. I am still the coffee king, even if the doc has slashed my daily intake down to one a day. Good thing I make it a quad-shot (Hey, that's ONE drink).
My main horse is the Jura S9... fully automatic goodness, 30 seconds for a double shot, and all I have to do is press the button. It grinds, tamps, brews, and discards the grounds... all I have to do is gulp. There's a digital counter of the number of shots it has brewed... I stopped looking at it when it sailed past 5000 shots (in less than 2 years, and it isn't my only coffee machine). Yes, I'm an addict. I'm on the 1 step program and I completed it a long time ago. Admit you have a problem. Done. |
