Title: DSL Post by Charlie on Aug 14th, 2009 at 11:11pm
How nice......I now have DSL but no sound.........YouTube just isn't the same without sound :o
One of my better geek friends was here but after 45 minutes....sitll no sound. I did have sound about a month ago so I know my tower works. Need a geek from my server. Nothing's ever simple. I know you'll find this hard to believe but I never have it on as I never listen to music here and only rarely anytime. It was probably June the last time I had the speaker on but it was working. I hate computers. Charlie |

My friend is a real geek. He's been at it since the early 90s. He simply ran out of time. We really got into it.
Thanks though. I think he'll be back. It drives him nuts. Charlie |

Out at pacificgeek.com you can buy a new rig for under $100.
I seriously do not even fix friends PC's any longer. I just keep 4 or 5 of those in the basement and tell them... 'your rig is fucked... just take one of these'. Out of the last 4 I handed out 3 have yet to pay me, but I have not missed a round of golf un-fucking their machines, so all is good. |

Charlie,
Now all you need are talking smiley faces to put the frosting on your DSL. Of course, in my opinion, the world will have come to end when there are talking smiley faces. |

DSL...digital subscriber line.
Or as I like to call it, "Mal-ware magnet" which actually has nothing to do with DSL. You should be set for quite a while! What is you bandwidth like? AT&T? I just recently started At&T's Uverse setup. It's pretty nice. When I look at the router settings and see that 25Mb/sec DL speed I just about croak! Of course it's mostly allocated to the streaming TV, only 6MB/sec are for interweb useage. I do miss the days of cheap SDSL. ADSL will have to do. Hope you enjoy your new info-highway access ramp. The merge lane is short so floor it! |

sorry Charlie,
Let me restate most of it. Mal-ware is a term used to describe code, or viruses that are meant to attack and attatch themselves to your browser(internet explorer) files and report information about you, your surfing habbits, and even passwords or critical and personal information to a third party. Not a scare tactic, the truth. An unprotected PC connected to the internet can survive virus free for an average of 23 seconds. Meaning that everywhere, all of the time, some jerkoff company is out to get you and yours. Just stay protected. Anti-virus software, firewall, anti-malware software they all hlp in the fight against information hijacking. A continuous connection like DSL/cable can be vulnerable. I use all free software to maintain my network. AVG (free antivirus) and AdAware (free mal-ware tool). Those 2 are pretty darn easy to use, and very helpful. Just stay away from the unsoliceted crap like advertisement emails and popups and you'll be peachy. Feel free to msg me any questions about your network securtiy. I'll help all I can. Enjoy your broadband connection. :P |
