Good morning clusterheads;
Last night, I took 10mg Melatonin before bed and had ZERO HITS. During this current cycle, I've been guaranteed 3 kip 7-8's every night.
I actually got 8 hours of un-interupted sleep last night and I feel like a new person.

What brand of melatonin did you use?

From what I understand they're not all necessarily created equal.

I tried 9 mg sublingual the other night and was promptly greeted with my usual 3 hits during the time I should've been sleepng.  :-?

The brand I used is "Finest" and it's Walgreens generic house brand.
I got the timed release 5mg / 120 count for $10
If this works, It's the best $10 I ever spent!

Yep.

The first time I ever got melatonin (maybe 4 or 5 years ago), I think the tablets were 1.5 mg, and the directions said to hold the tablet under the tongue for a little while before swallowing.  I believe it was for 30 seconds, but I don't recall for sure.

I'm not sure of the reason for that instruction - it wasn't long enough for the tablet to dissolve very much, but maybe the saliva jump-started the process a little (?)

Yeah, I've had some like that, and currently have some that's chewable. It doesn't say to hold it under my tongue or anything, just to either swallow it or chew it up. (whichever I prefer.)

That's outstanding. It's amazing what a difference a good nights sleep can make.

Ya.....When you wake up and realize you didn't have a hit, and slept alllll night,    You just feel so HAPPY!

For me, it took about 3 nights before the full effect of melatonin kicked in.  Also, I couldn't take more than 6mg as it screwed me up.  Less was best for me.

As for the sublingual, that's what I took also.  I liked it better because it kicked in sooner.

Did it screw you up as in it didn't work for the CH?

I'm taking 10 mg, no results yet, but just on the 3rd night tonight, and would be interested in what to watch for regarding reaction to dosage.

I think she means things like stumbling if you have to get out of bed in the middle of the night. That sort of thing. More than 9mg has the same effect on me.

I still do get up in the middle of the night but not because of C.H.
I get up cause I gotta pee. I guess I'm gettin old.
Anyway, hav'nt noticed any stumbling but I have gotten up every morning with heartburn.
Big deal, still no nighttime hits!

A little "wasted" if you have to get up while it's still in effect. The more you take, the more stumbly you'll likely be.

Also, some report having very vivid dreams.

Melatonin is a normal hormone produced in a gland in your brain, its job is to regulate sleep/wake cycles.  So, by nature, if you increase this amount in your blood stream the effect is that you will be sleepy, or just overall grogginess.

Melatonin has done miracles for me in the past. However I've read that I shouldn't take it if I'm taking Verapamil. Is this correct? 

Blood pressure medications and Melatonin -- Melatonin may reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications like methoxamine and clonidine. In addition, medications in a class called calcium channel blockers (such as nifedipine, verapamil, diltiazem, amlodipine, nimodipine, felodipine, nisoldipine, and bepridil) may decrease melatonin levels.

Use of beta-blockers (another class of high blood pressure medications that includes propranolol, acebutolol, atenolol, labetolol, metoprolol, pindolol, nadolol, sotalol, and timolol) may reduce melatonin production in the body.
