Title: Melatonin Rocks!
Post by Sue on Sep 8th, 2009 at 12:51pm
I am so thankful for this web-site.  I am new here just with this cycle.  I would never have known about Melatonin except for the advice given here.  My doctor prescribed a medication that I would not take because of too many side effects and O2 works 100% of the time for me, however, this cycle was kicking my butt.  10-13 CH's per night, needless to say I was worn out.  I started taking 6mg of Melatonin about 8 days ago and for the past 4 nights I have only had 2-3 CH's and last night I had 0. The only thing I am doing differently is the Melatonin.  I am only 4 weeks into this cycle and mine usually last 3 months, so I know it's not over.

Just wanted to share the success! :D

Sue

You might want to try upping the dosage by 3mg per night every 3 or 4 nights. See if you can't erase the nighttime hits altogether.

Thanks Brew, I will try upping it another 3mg tonight.

Just go slowly. And keep in mind that there are a few around here that don't get relief from the nighttime hits until 15-18mg. The majority, however, are in the 9-15mg range.

Personally, I am almost always at 6mg - unless my cycle is peaking, and then 9mg seems to git 'r dun. Everybody's different.

Glad u said that.....sometimes 9mg works for me, sometimes it doesn't......i'm a very slight sleeper anyway.....i'll wake up if a housefly flies into the room >:(

I promise to go slow.  In fact since I didn't have any CH last night I think I will wait to go up to 9mg after I see how tonight goes. Thanks for the help!

Well, 2 pain free nights and hopefully counting.  I stuck with 6 mg of Melatonin and I'm not going to go up as long as I have no pm hits. This is an amazing thing to me.  For as many years as I have had this horrible thing...no medication would work, and lo and behold an over the counter "sleep aid" is what's helping...go figure! I'm just thankful for the few night's un-interrupted sleep and hopeful for more to come.

Thank you everyone for your support....and once again, thank God for this web-site! :-*

The discovery of melatonin was one of the more impressive for me as well.

Just keeping everyone up with the progress.  I am still taking only 6 mg of melatonin per night and I have not had a CH since Sept 8th....that is 2 whole weeks.

I know I am still in cycle because I have had a shadow or two.

Melatonin has been my miracle!

I love it when a plan comes together.

I am squarely in the middle of a cycle right now - have been for over a month. But I've only been awakened once by it. And I'm still at 6mg.

The daytime hits have been relatively easy to deal with, nothing over K5.

I think they're easier to deal with when you have a good night's sleep under your belt.

Apparently Melatonin is available as a dietary supplement in the US, but over the counter sales of the hormone are illegal in many other countries.  So, I wonder who is right?  It's enough to give me a heachache.  ;D

I completely agree with that.  I feel like i'm torturing myself.  I have the bottle of melatonin, but won't take it because i'm waiting for a new batch of seeds.
I need to stay detoxed for them to work.  It's worth it, but the night hits suck >:(

I've read of other in the UK obtaining melatonin without a prescription. I don't remember who or how, but maybe if you started a thread on the general board....(wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, know what I mean, know what I mean, wink, wink)

I would like some more feedback on the melatonin. I had not had an attack in fifteen years and two nights ago my old friend returned. I read about Melatonin on the internet and started taking it last night. 10mg. Its 4AM and I'm awake so it obviously didn't help. Does it take a few days to build a cumulative affect or is a higher dosage needed? I would love for this to work. In the past it was Verapamil and Imitrex and I dislike both of those.

I'm no expert on melatonin, but I've read about it a lot on this site. I think you need to give it a try for at least a week. It can take its time to start working. But once it does, it's a miracle for many around here.

So don't give up on it yet! I hope it'll make a big difference to you as well!

PFDAN, Lottie

I echo this sentiment. Keep at it.
