Title: I'm new to the board, but not to clusters
Post by outtatown on Sep 14th, 2009 at 12:11am
I'm the wife of a cluster sufferer, I found this board three years ago, he has them every third year and today he had his first shadow...it happens in the fall every three years like I said. Wondering if anything new has happened since three years ago...treatment, preventative etc. He had a shadow tonight earlier and I gave him a glass of strong, cold coffee...not sure that will work though. He's still in the shadow phase, we'll see if it starts again for sure. I can't even begin to think of what we'll go through for the next 8 weeks or so. Somehow I thought maybe it would pass, that my every three years predication would be wrong. I'll check back later. I am so sorry for all of you who suffer, as I've seen it first hand for every three of the last 20 years with my husband.

Well, he didn't have one last  night (they usually happen around 1 am.). We'll see if he has another shadow today. That's how it starts with him...he shadows for a few days then works his way into them full bore.

Would be worth considering starting a preventive med now rather than waiting to see if a full blown cycle is about to begin.

Ive had really good success with Kudzu as a prevent, and without the side effects of Verap and Lithium.  I'm with Bob though, it's time to get one started.  Also, I would look at the oxygen info on the left.  The usage of it has changed somewhat in 3 yrs, in particular going to 25 lpm or higher.  Also, the O2ptimask is a great improvement over the old non-rebreather.

How did things go with the doc?

Were you able to acquire a script for 02?  Other abortives?  Preventatives?

Hoping your doc is knowledgeable of CH . . . or at least amenable to new information.

    Be Safe,
