Title: Thank you all Post by Martin on Sep 21st, 2009 at 9:51am
I've just found this website and am so thankful that I did.
I'm 22, and have just started to really 'appreciate' the full extent of these things. I'd had a CH here and there as a teenager, but they would only last 5-10 minutes and would only come once or twice a year. I'd been misdiagnosed as having migraines, although doctors would tell me it's odd they come and go so quickly... This last year, I've been having them more frequently. And two weeks ago, my first (self)confirmed cycle. I'm on a steady Wed-Thursday at 10am run right now, which is destroying my new job. I'm so thankful my boss is understanding, as I've had to miss a full week now over the last month. All it took was for her to walk in on my during a full-blown CH, rocking and sobbing in my office chair with the lights off. Now with 7 BADDDD CH's in the last 14 days, about 15 in the last 2-3 months..... I've finally made an appointment with a M.D. and I'm armed with knowledge. Again, thanks so much for helping me finally figure out what is happening to me. And thanks even more for sharing your stories; it helps tremendously knowing others suffer through these living nightmares and I'm not alone in my pain. I've had those dark thoughts a few times in my fights with the beast. But now I know there are others who fight AND win this battle everyday, and that gives me strength I've never had. Take care, and wishing you all PF happy, times. |

Danged glad you found us! The early days are the worst as the formal diagnosis can take a while. It's worth the work as a correct diagnosis is critical to a succesful treatment regimen. If you're not already keeping a headache diary, start one. When they start, how fast they peak, how high the peak is, how fast they leave, any triggers you may have identified, what has and hasn't worked to relieve the pain.
The final diagnosis will be in the details. If it turns out to be CH....and I hate to jinx you but it sure sounds like how mine started 30 years ago.......then don't lose this site! There is not a more comprehensive collection of info on CH anywhere! Praying you get a quick diagnosis and an effective treatment plan! Joe |

Hi Martin, welcome. What Joe said!
Wishing you all the best. Nothing like being armed with Knowledge as you enter the rather screwed up world of medical "Professionals" Iddy :) |

Welcome to the forced membership group Martin! ;)
Sorry you had to bring the CH monkey with you though. Stick around, share your experiences and maybe be of help to someone else. PFDAN to you! |

Sounds like yo are doing your homework. Good for you. In the mean time until you can get to the Dr and get a Dx you might want to try an energy drink with taurene like Red Bull or Monster or 5Hr Energy (my pref). If you slam one at the first sign of onset of the attack it will usually abort one for me in just a few minutes. At the least it will knock it back to a bearable level where I can continue to work.
