Title: First post, and an eye question
Post by SteveTa on Sep 28th, 2009 at 1:17pm
I've been a  sufferer for around 15 years, 3 major bouts in that time, and been free for 5 years till yesterday.

This one started as a mild hang-over-induced headache, which was fading away early afternoon when the beast arrived, and stayed for around 90 minutes. Ice-pack held against side of neck eased but not eliminated the pain.

But my question relates to my eyes. I have puffy bags below the eye, not too unusual for a man in his mid 50's - but they get worse every cluster, and ballooned yesterday during the attack.

From previous experience, I suspect the inflated sack will deflate over the next few weeks, leaving my normal saggy bloodhound look.

Do other's get this immediate reaction during attacks? I've not been able to find much about this via google.

See Horners Syndrome on Wiki.

I would assume most of us get this.  My eye gets red, swells and drips.  This is very common with CH.
My ear also swells and my nose drips on the side of the CH which is my right.

So, don't think this is uncommon.

I hope your cycle is short and I wish you pain free
days real soon!

Cheers,
Chad

A little trick for the bag under the eye, as demented as it may sound ... Use Preparation H under the eye.  It DOES shrink it down to a more normal size.

Actors have been using this trick for YEARS!

But, in answer to your question, as Chad said, it is fairly normal.  It affects each of us to varying degrees.  Some, not at all (visibly).

Welcome to the insane asylum family!

Chuck

Swelling not uncommon, for me at least.  Eye, nasal cavity and ear all swell during some attacks, usually it's just my eye but on a few occasions nasal and ear as well.

My eye swelling usually goes down after a few days.  ::)

<Edit>
Um, oh ya. Welcome to the CH Plank   :P

For me it's my eyelid that swells, and it goes back to normal pretty quickly (within a few hours).

Eye swelling and the affected side of the face swelling is normal.  I'm afraid to even look in a mirror during or right after a bad ch.  My hubby is the one who notices at a glance.  I never noticed the face swelling until he pointed it out.

YUP, ya gets bedroom eyes - pillows under 'em.... (Horner's syndrome).

Prep H works pretty good, but the droopy eye is still there .... I just pretend I'm winking a lot (yeah right).

You really sound pretty "normal" for a clusterhead... Welcome to the family... and don't pay any attention to Chuck... he just escaped from the home, but they'll find him pretty quick (they always do!).. ;)
