Title: O2 and bloody nose Post by mickey on Sep 28th, 2009 at 3:10pm
I'm in full blown cycle now having 5 or 6 a day. I am Doing everything I can to limit myself to 1 shot of Imitrex a day and 1 can of monster energy drink. Any more Monster tears the stomach up. All the rest I am using O2 with a humidifer and rebreather mask. I am starting to get nose bleeds from using the O2 so much. Is this common ?

No, not common from what I can tell.
Breathe through your mouth. I use a mouthpiece instead of a mask and I've never had a problem with a bloody nose (18+ years on the stuff). |

How long are you using O2 for each hit?

Some years ago Barry (from Australia) measured the O2 humidity with bubbler. 43.1% with normal tube, 50% with bubbler stone. Quite normal humidity.
Blood pressure OK? |

using O2 for around 7 to 10 mins most of the time with good results. There have been a few that I've used it 20 mins, On those rare occasions if it does get rid of it it is quick to come back and I have to use somthing else or ride it out. I guess using my mouth would be a good idea. I guess in my head I think if I breath through my nose it is closer to the point of pain. Kind of like when I take a shot. Pain's on the left so give the shot on the left.

I started getting nose bleeds, initial i though it was oxygen related but i now get them even before i start using the o2. its not uncommon for this to be one of the first symptoms.
I have broken my nose quite a few times so the poor thing is a bit fragile but i dont really understand why i would suddenly start getting nosebleeds with CH. Obviously its a bit distressing and yet another thing to deal with! :-/ |

My guess is you have some blood vessels prone to nose bleeds anyways, and when your pulse and BP sky rocket during an attack, (common), they burst. (I am not a doctor and haven't even played one on TV so take that opnion for what it's worth!) ;)
But yeah, jump on the oxygen FIRST. 31 years with the beast it's still my first line and most effectibe abortive. Joe |
